I only have 500 miles on the clock of my new camaro, but will do an oil and filter change at 1,000 miles and every 3,000 miles after that; (5W-30 Mobile 1 syn).
If you trust in the DIC oil life display, I've got an old saying for ya, "Pay me now or pay me later". Nuff said!

10-12k miles... 5-10% oil life left. Unless a year comes first, then I do it at the year mark. I specifically asked the dealer "If I change this when onstar tells me, and it breaks, you will fix it right?". They said absolutely. I make sure to take it to the dealer to do the oil changes for that reason. Sure, it's more expensive, but if it breaks, they've got no excuse. Their oil, their filters, their technicians.

That being said, I do keep spare oil and check the oil every other week when I fill up with gas. I don't neglect it completely

The manual says when the % tells you to, or one year has passed. I'm at 4700 miles and 38%, so I figure at around 7500 I'll get my first oil change.

I had mine changed at about 1,000 miles to start, and now I take it in whenever the DIC tells me I have 40% life remanining which is typically every 5-7k miles.

Which goes right back to the uneducated old school mentality. It's not a DIC on the Camaro, it is a OLM and it is as perfect as you can get. It is also light years ahead of a person looking at, feeling or smelling their oil. The only way to acheive anything better is to have real time analysis.

I believe in its capabilities from personal use with oil analysis reports backing up my OCI's. Besides, I know more than most cut and paste Amsoil dealers which are at least 95% of them.

The OLM (Oil Life Monitor) is displayed on the DIC (Driver Information Center) display along with many other items.

Yep good point

I have always tried to change my oil at about 20-25% on the OLM for all my GM cars except the GTO which wouldn't tell me the % left just an alert when it got to low, that car was every 5000. My CTS I would let go a bit longer but only because it was a lease.

That being said, I'm about 14% right now, and while it bothers me on a personal basis that I haven't changed it, I don't think it harms the car.
