If you see the way they designed the Rocker panels on the 16 - you can can see how the next (ZL2 or mayb Z28 if they do one) will have some sort of rear cooling duct where the gills use to be for the breaks
Interesting observation. At first I was thinking that it would be the other way around, in that the Z/28 would incorporate the hardware and performance quality of the 1/LE and replace it in the line-up. If you really look at the two cars, they typically are aimed at the same performance segment. The Z/28 was more specialized and exclusive, but for all intentions of the segment it was the 1/LE that was a better model for the "Best Bang for the Buck" track car.

I suspect that the Z/28 will return as the exclusive track car once again. Chevy has to be careful this time, because I believe that they had some trouble moving the Z/28 due to price and a bit of crowding in the track performance segment by both the ZL and 1/LE.

I wonder if they could have saved even more weight without the M.R suspension?

Sure it's a great technology, but I wonder if they sacrificed ultimate performance for a lil comfort flexibility on this one, and at the expense of more weight?

Curious if the next Z28 will have Magnetic Ride.

Personally, I'm all for Magnetic ride, but I can still somehow see it, irking some with this package. Time will tell of course, and either way it goes, it will be a learning experience a few years down the line for all of us.
I agree, Mag ride is great but I don't think it belongs in a track car. Struts are a critical part in a race chassis and mag ride just seems to offer the potential for service nightmares and costly replacement. Struts just don't last long when you track your car frequently and I think they could have utilized a better option.

Yes Sir Indeed!! That's a great video! Answers my questions. Thanks for the video Pushrod Pete! Al and team appears to have done another fantastic job!

I don't know why, but after viewing all the pictures and reading articles for year or so and the arrival anticipation on the new Gen6, when I see a Gen5 now, they have become more attractive. It's taken me 4 years to like the Gen5 looks..must be getting old. Cheers to the Gen6!

Peace

Until I see Randy hoon that thing on the streets of willow I have a hard time believing it will be 3 seconds faster than the current 1le.

It's a lighter car with more power, likely better brakes, and likely equivalent if not better overall handling.... a few seconds won't be a surprising outcome.

Sink the price difference into a 5th gen 1LE and we have a different discussion of course, but that can be said of a whole bunch of vehicles.

The weight makes a big difference and they said the tires have a different (probably softer) compound, too.

three reasons why I won't own one. ( never say never however )

1) I love my car. Until I don't love it anymore it is NOT going anywhere.

2) The dealer will say "okay the '171LE is 45k and we will give you 25k for your car so the difference is 20k PLUS tax, tag, title etc."

3) Even the manual has AFM. hell no and hell no to tuning it out. Just no.

Love the car tho. Great Job by Team Camaro. Pretty sure as soon as you buy the '17 1LE they will drop news of the next Z and you'll be trading up- again.
