I generally take a damp microfiber cloth i used to dry my wheels with to the engine bay to wipe all the dust off. If you do this every time you wash it, it will stay really clean.

Depends on what you are wanting to wash under there but one thing is always true....NEVER USE THE PRESSURE WASHER!!!!! If you must use a hose pipe, turn it down low to a trickle as any pressure will force the water into the electrical connections and parts of the engine bay where water should never go.

anyone use a degreaser such as simple green or windex? Curious if chemicals would cause any issues in hoses/wiring/plastic, et al.

For years I have cleaned my engine compartments with a 10:1 simple green solution. Let it soak for 10 minutes, then hit it with the pressure washer. Just be sure not to hold the nozzle too close to electrical components, spark plug boots, and the under hood insulation. You CAN force water into areas that won't dry out. I generally run the engine when I use the pressure washer on it, and leave it running for 30 minutes in order to dry out, just in case.
