Definitely, the A pillar is crushed in. I'd be surprised if they don't total it just for that alone with the airbag deployment. Everything else exterior wise is fixable, but I think it'd be near impossible to do anything with that frame.

not the state, the insurance company. I've heard that's how state farm does it

Hopefully it's totaled. Then collect what the insurance gives you and buy it back for penny's on the dollar. Then you can use her for parts or get her running again. Works every time.
Glad you're ok plus with the TAXFREE settlement you are going to get with the help of a lawyer, you will be fine.

If the price to fix the damage is more than the car's worth (either book value, or market value for historic cars), and/or the fixes would not restore it to "like new", its totaled.

Heard from the insurance agent today and they estimated the damage at around 10k so they are sending it to sports car specialized body shop to be fixed. If they don't find anything else wrong with the car it wont be totaled. He said the A pillar is no big deal to fix. The damage would need to be 80% of 23K to be totaled.

Looks like a lot more than 10k in damages to me. Good luck with the repairs.

I had a 2005 Duramax Dually that had $17K damage. It was a $48K truck and only had 16K miles on it. Insurance (Farmers) totaled it because it needed a new frame. That was in Oregon and they brand the title on frame repair or replacement. Farmers will not pay for a branded title so they totaled it.

So the body shop I took the car to refused to do the work because they would be required to put a lifetime warranty on the work and he said he was not going to warranty it because the car was so badly damaged and would never be right. So the body shop and I convinced Geico to total the car. The reason the estaminet was so low was because Geico has a clause that they are allowed to put aftermarket parts on your car. They totaled the car a week ago but haven't heard back because of all the total loss claims form hurricane sandy apparently. They offered me like 24,800 for the car which I think is good. I'm loving my Cadillac CTS rental car they gave me, I think it is going to be my next car.
