No drone exhaust?

L99 is coming in next week and I am on a shopping spree. I am sold
on the LT American Racing Headers and so far the only exhaust that mentions
no drone for the L99 is Corsa but I don't see an axle back from them.

Besides Corsa does anyone experience no drone with LT ARH on a L99.

Thanks.

I will do a video for you in the car driving down the highway with my TSP headers/xpipe & catback. You can check out the pics I posted in another thread. I think the magnaflow mufflers will help fix the drone, I like them WAY better than the stock muffler setup that's for sure!

Check out Solo Performance- Mach X specifically for the L99. Hard to beat their product and price. I have no affiliation-just a happy customer.

On the LT with a tune? If so have your tuner turn off the DoD. I would not believe there is any exhaust for the L99, that has no drone with LT and AFM still active... If this is their claim I say.....

I'm pretty sure you can order the ARH headers without their x-pipe. In fact I know you can. That way it can bolt up to the factory exhaust or any aftermarket exhaust. Just make sure the piping is the same size as whatever exhaust you get.

It is kind of nice to get almost 25 mpgs
I am still getting 20+MPG that is with DoD disabled Solo Mach X and Kooks Headers, Trip was 200 miles, 20 MPH head wind (I was heading North, wind was from north to south) Reset everything when I left Dallas, when I pulled in my garage I had MPG of 21.6 Average speed 67 mph, Actually I had the cruise set at 75, and an ocassional blast over 100... Just my experience! Is that 4 MPG worth the ricer sound? Not to me.

Another choice is the Magnaflow street 2.5. If you want to keep your exhaust relatively quiet (but still bad axx sounding) this is an excellent setup/match for LT headers.

But as I have mentioned many times in the past, the Magnaflow street is too quiet without long tubes.

So if I understand correctly drone can be cancelled
with DoD/AFM shutoff and not caused by the design or
materials used on a particular exhaust.
And the expense of turning off the afm is a few mpgs.
Nice. I didn't buy a muscle car to penny pinch on gas,
my daily commute is like 7 minutes to and from work
and I want to make it the most enjoyable I can.
I just absolutely hate droning, I've had it before don't
want it again.
You guys are all great. Good info.Thank you all.

It will have to be turned off with a handheld tuner, or when you get your LT headers tuned, the tuner will most likely ask you if want to keep it.. If you do get a dyno tune, ask your tuner if he will tunes the transmission also, I.E. torque managment toggled to off, shift points etc..!

Don't mis-understand... You can have drone with any engine... the point here is AFM definitely causes excess drone when it switches to 4 cylinders to save gas. So you need to take that into consideration w/ the L99

If you get LT you will need a tune to keep the O2 codes from setting... While you are at it you can set AFM to only activate at highway speeds or just tune it out. I would totally get rid of AFM if you are going with LTs. The LTs and tune will also be your best HP gains too.

As Polecat said this could affect your warranty. If you are concerned with that go Catback only and get a cool sound..

I still get drone with my Borla "S" exhaust. The design of the exhaust plays the biggest part in drone or no drone. My buddy has the Corsa exhaust with Dynatech headers and high flow cats and there's almost no drone on his car.

I sure bought a V8 to run a V8 all the time, I just wanted
the auto because my stick shift days are over....too lazy.
I always considered a handheld tuner once I started with the
engine mods, one that keeps up with the never ending
quest for more power.
As far as warranty, not worried. The owner of the chevy
dealer where I bought the car is very close friend. As long
as I don't bring him in a dragster for service I'm ok.

I just got a Diablo Trinity handheld tuner from Jannetty Racing just so I can control when I want to turn it on or off. Comon sense dealerships like yours are nice to deal with. So far mine has been the same way...

Also with handhelds, shops like Jannetty can get log files from you and provide you with custom tuning for your particular mods.
