GM Badge

Apparently I'm not the only one who isn't a fan of the little square GM badge now appearing on all vehicles. You never see it in renderings, official photos, and now it's noticeably absent on the SEMA cars as well. That's pretty telling when GM itself leaves off the ubiquitous silver square.

I plan on removing mine if possible. Does anyone know if it's riveted on or just glued on? If glued, will it damage the paint beneath?

I'm not a huge fan of it. It just doesn't look like it belongs where they put it most of the time. I'll debadge mine probably.

Nothing a heat gun, fishing line, Goo Gone and a rag can't take care of.

The badge is located at the base of the front fenders, (behind the wheels) on both sides of the car. I thought I had a picture showing the location, but can't seem to find it.

Take a look through this thread http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2. There are quite a few good shots of it. I too will be taking it off if possible.

Heres a really good shot

Looks like they are recycling the old seatbelt center buttons as badges.

So, these are just stick-ons then? Some of the other cars (e.g., Mustangs) have a guide hole for their badges so if you remove the badge you are left with one or more holes about 1/8th of an inch. Granted their badges are much larger. Regardless, the easiest way to take it off without damaging any paint is to use fishing line or dental floss and use a sawing motion behind the badge. Once off, all you need to do is to clean it up with goo-gone or WD-40 and then wash the area...and wax, of course.

It won't damage the paint to remove it. The only way any change in paint will be noticeable is if you leave the badge on too long and then the sun fades the area around it. Then when you remove the badge there will be a small square of perfect paint and a faded are outside.
