ls3 ticking noise. Help!!!

Ive got an ls3 with 30k it just started making a tick/flapping noise recently. I ve replaced header gaskets and re tightened all my exhaust system. It specifically makes this noise between 1500 to 2800 rpm approximately. It quites down a lil bit after a few minutes but it's still present. Any suggestions??? I ve heard a few videos on YouTube and those don't really sound like what my car is doing.

Could be in your valve train. If you still have warranty I would take it in.

What's the best method to diagnose this without taking off the valve covers?

Another thing also if I open the hood and listen and rev it to those rpm you really can't hear anything other than normal valve train noise. It more noticeable from in the cabin while driving at low speed between 1500/2800 rpm.

My past L99 sounded like a sewing machine under the hook when it developed lifter issues. Headers can also sound like this. When did you install your headers.

take a screw driver or a cut broomstick or even a stethoscope and probe....that's prolly the easiest way i know of

just because you tuned it doesn't necessarily mean you voided your power train warranty...its worth a shot to take it in anyway

??? If you tuned then your power train warranty is gone.

Op.... sounds like it's time for you to get a cam and replace all the internals. Lol.

All LS motors, from my experience, are going to be making noise. The injectors are pretty loud, and also the valve train gets louder the more miles you put on it. I've had several different LS motors and they've all done it. I've had an LS1, LS2 and now the LS3 and they have all made some type of valve train noise.

I've learned to deal with it and live on knowing that as long as my car doesn't blow up, I'm going to be fine.

First of all its a Chevy so its going to "tick" when its cold. Like the childhood joke goes......Can Hear Every Valve Rod Or Lifter Every Time. C-H-E-V-R-O-L-E-T! Its doing what it is supposed to do, The autos with VVT don't d this but you had to have the stick. Live with it.
