So I installed my first set of longtubes...
I didn't break any bolts. I got the back ones with ease.
I didn't break any plugs. Back ones went on easy. Stock gaskets went on fine. Dipstick, no problem. I did my research and everything went perfect. Took about 4 hours on ramps/jacks. A lot of thanks goes to everyone on the forum for the tips on the annoying stuff. So I decided to change the oil after everything was done. Easy right? Well I couldn't see that the old rubber gasket from the old filter was stuck on the car and put the new filter on...ontop of the old gasket. Ended up spraying oil everywhere when I started it. The literal high-pitched rubber fart noise from the gaskets was like salt on a wound. Ended up having to clean up 5L of oil. Spent all that time prepping to do it right...and end up tripping at the finish line with an oil change. |

I would look at it as a lesson learned kinda thing.
You are very lucky that it started leaking immediately on startup. Imagine if you had taken a drive and it was leaking then, far from home. You could have toasted the engine, or worse, started a fire and lost the whole car. Thanks for this thread though. I will be extra cautious when changing my oil to make certain the gasket comes off with the filter.

Yea, a $50 lesson well learned. Half for the oil, and the other half to soak up all the oil in my buddies driveway.
When I looked under the car and saw the oil spitting out from the filter, I thought "...I just cross thread my oil filter..." followed by a few sentence enhancers. So I guess luck was on my side. |

if only you had recorded the major steps of your install to help out. Pictures with detailed description would be awesome. i'm looking to buying new headers w/cats, this could benefit a lot of folks. great job

Nice, I'm gonna be installing some long tubes next week, hoping for no stupid bolts or any other problems. I remember one time I wanted to save on these $100 oil changes and do it myself. I didn't wait long enough to let oil cool off I open the bolt on the oil pan and the oil burns me, and my jack stand is blocking my oil pan from catching oil, all of the oil spills out all over the parking lot I share with neighbors. They could not park there that night because I couldn't get kitty litter until the morning. I just pay the hundred bucks now
