LS7 Camaro6?

Speculation of course...

It turns out General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] is keen to keep the engine in production, and developing it for use in the Alpha platform of the ATS-V could also pave the way for the engine’s application in a hardcore version of the sixth-generation Camaro, as the two cars share a platform.
Would be happy with an LS7 equipped Camaro6 as long as I could be had for under $50k (GT350 est. $48k)

A Gen 6 Camaro with the LS7 is a possibility.

A Gen 6 Camaro with the LS7 for under $50K is NEVER going to happen.

It would be nice though.

My understanding is the LS7 emissions cert ends soon. They won't be able to put it in emissions controlled vehicles. I guess they could have extended it but I don't see why they would. The LTx has the capability to at least match the LS7 without 7.0 liters.

LS series of engines are going the way of the Do-Do for production cars.

Who wants to match it? Improve it is a smarter idea. Anyone who thinks 505 horses is the end of the N/A emissions compliable spectrum is likely wrong. Key would be a much higher redline which is doable. GM has dropped their warranty to 60k miles for 2016 anyway.

DI ls7 with improved heads/cam/ intake should be good for ~550 hp. LT7. Gt350 answer. It would be awesome.

I've been thinking the exact same thing, maybe even in the higher 500HP range. And it should be a lot less expensive than the LS7.

There isn't any more development of performance Gen IV V8's being done at GM.

LT5.

32 valve small block v8, just like the original one in the ZR1. They made 405hp then with a 475hp version that was almost ready for production.

That would easily make 540-550hp as a 6.2 and todays tech. Would run the Gt350's face through the mud just like the SS will be doing to the GT.

GM was working on such an engine for the Z06. It was shelved in favor of the LT4 because it couldn't hit emission requirements at the desired power levels.

Note the MT article has no source or meaningful information and the other is quoting the MT article, just pure speculation. Why mess with converting a LS7 to DI when you could simply increase the displacement slightly on the LT1 and hit the same power goal. I think the rejected NA engine for the ZO6 is more likely than continued LS7 production.

"At the desired power levels." Now if they were trying to hit 600+ for the Z06 and it wasn't happening, ok, but they could probably use that same engine at 550 or 575 and meet emissions, wouldn't you think?

Doesn't DI improve emissions ? Better heads and other parts shouldn't hurt either.

And this motor has had 505 hp since 2006. I would think an extra ~50 hp could be done pretty easy.

It's the perfect choice imo.

I'd think so. I really need to go dig up those quotes and interviews to read how it was worded again.
