comparing 2000 LS-1 305 HP to the 2010 V-6
I have a 2000 Z-28- which was rated then at 305 hp. The V-6 is rated almost the same. What difference would I see in responsiveness, feel, etc. if I went with the V-6. Not an issue of money or insurance for me (I'm an old guy with near perfect driving record). Just wondering.
BTW, my Z-28 is a convertible which just turned 138,000 miles today, original clutch, original brake rotors, near original throughout, which parks every nite next to a 2006 DSOM Corvette Coupe (but I am still a Camaro man anyway!) Thanks for comments |

LS1 more torque
'10 more weight the 2000 has a better lb/hp ratio the '10 will almost surely handle better in the corners get the FE2 suspension unless you plan to mod after buy Last edited by Mythic; 03-15-2009 at 10:09 AM. Reason: speeling eroors :) |

I agree with Mythic. The LS1 is a V8, no two ways around it. It's got more torque and less weight from what I can find. Believe it or not it's also got about the same fuel economy! I'm not sure what axle ratio you have but it will probably be similar to the V6 in either the automatic or manual. Overall I'd say you will notice less pickup when compared to your current camaro but better handling and interior quality with the 5th gen V6. Also the lack of a drop top

From what I can tell, you'll probably feel very similar when in first gear because of the amazingly aggressive gearing in the V6 camaro, but after you hit 40 and have to shift, that will change fast.
I've never driven it, but based on the numbers and based on what those who have driven it have said, that's how it seems it will be. The LS1 will definitely be faster, but even though the 2010 is slower you'll still feel the power when you get on it. Kind of like romping on the gas in a truck. You go nowhere (relatively) but you can still feel the pull. - Xanthos

Don't forget, to get the most out of the SIDI VVT 3.6 you will have to change your driving style.
Spend alot of time in the higher RPMs and you will be rewarded. This engine is at it's best over 3500 RPM. Take it to red line in each gear and you will be thoroughly impressed..... just don't tell that Cadillac dealer how I know |

However, since I have the 2000 convertible, it is heavier than the coupe was in 2000. The vert came in at about 3700 lbs I believe. Might make the 2010 V-6 much more comparable and similar to the 2000 LS-1 in the vert.

Well, the coupe was rated at 13.6 I think from motortrend, and it looks like the vert was about 13.9 or so. Meaning a bit faster than the V6 still.

your 2000 z28 was also making closer to 340 ish hp too, in stock form, btw.
You really can't compare the two, the v6 MIGHT handle SLIGHTLY better, but will still most likely lose in ANY sort of race. |

But slightly modded and I think it will outrun the 4th gens around a road course. Not on a drag strip, but it'll make up for it in the turns. - Xanthos P.S. - Not to mention how much sexier it is.
