Tire heating question
OK guys I have a question for people with manual trans cars with a line lock system. When you are at the track and heat the tires up what gear are you doing your burn out in. I guess my concern is will a first gear burn out with the associated tire speed heat the tires (drag radials) up sufficiently? Thanks

Click the "Drag Racing Tips" link in my sig. It has a detailed explanation of how to do a burn out without a line lock

A manual car with drag radials and a line lock should be able to do a 2nd gear burn out without putting a lot of stress on your car. There is no reason to dump the clutch hard or to side step the clutch. Get your rear tires good and wet, in the case of the video below there was a lot of water in the box so I did not need to spin the tires a little while in the water box, but if there is not a lot of water just make sure you spin them a couple of turns in first gear before you pull forward. Your tires need to be wet all around. Pull up out of the water and set your line lock on. Then put you trans in 2nd gear and rev it to around 1,500 to 2,000 rpms ease out on the clutch (like you are pulling out at a red light) you tires should spin, use the throttle to keep them spinning, up as high as 3,500 to 4,000 rpms. When you are satisfied with the results, release you line lock and let the car progress forward until you feel it get traction. The key here is to be sure you feel the traction to assure you have no water left on your tires just in case there was some water still in front of your rear tires or you did not get all the way past the wet area. As the car starts to move forward I let the RPMs drop until feel it hook so it is not so violent when it hooks. Listen as well as watch the video. Then go do your thing. In the case of my video below I got a little more traction than I wanted, but it yielded a 1.6x 60' LOL There are faster cars on the fast list than mine, but I think I do have the fastest LS3 Supercharged only M6 car on drag radials on the list.
