New Vehicle Break-In
Notice: Follow these
recommended guidelines during
the first 1,500 miles of
driving this vehicle. Parts have a
break-in period and performance
will be better in the long run.
• For the first 1,500 miles:
• Avoid full throttle starts and
abrupt stops.
• Do not exceed
4,000 engine rpm.
• Avoid driving at any one
constant speed, fast or slow.
• Do not drive above(100 mph).

well to be honest i just wanted to see what it could do. I was crusing along at 30 so i pushed the gas 3/4ths of the way down. Going over 4k rpm once is not gonna hurt the car. But it looks like i still need to brake it in some and then see if it does it again.

I really don't believe you should drive it like you stole it but I've never been able to 100% follow the break in guide so I just do the best I can and everything always seems to work out.

The problems you're having are not break in related man. You should be able to take the car from the dealership with 25 miles on it and do doughnuts across the street without having issues. Take it in to service.

yeah thats what i was thinking well, im gonna drive it some more this week and see whats up then take it in this weekend or have my dad look at it

but the thing is everything else is perfect in the car engine wise. It has been a great engine so far, great pulls in the 3k-4k range. This was rly the first time a pushed it past 4k with the notion of going to around 6kish and allowing the sport mode to shift it. It was just weird that it started to bog down maybe it was the stability control of something?

A little over a week ago in Louisville, KY, a guy taking a Challenger for a test ride in a 45 MPH zone was doing over 100 when he killed two people who pulled out in front of him. The salesman twice told him to slow it down.

I would guess you hit the rev limiter. I have hit a time or too in first. I didn't get on mine until I was around 2000 miles. It just flies through the digits when I get on it now. I always wonder what the 0-60 times I am running, but everytime I look at the speedo I am already at 80. Been to 110 on a clean stretch, and it still wanted to go.

So i pressed the traction button when i stopped and tried it again. The same thing happened again. Might there be something wrong or does the engine still need some more miles are is there something else i am missing?
Ok for one with you having an auto the RPM's will never go up to 6k before shifting into the next gear. If you have the tapshift and had it in sport mode or was using the tapshift its the rev limiter kicking in. Make sure the car is really in automatic and not using the tapshift because once you use the tapshift it becomes a manual and acts like one.

so if i was using sport mode but not the tapshift it will still rev limit?

It does sound like you are hitting the rev limiter... But the rev limiter doesn't kick in until almost 7000 RPM... Now the FAT tach needle does make it a bit tougher to get a really accurate reading... and i believe the analog tach is probably off a bit anyways... but you really should NOT be hitting the rev limiter at only 6000 RPM.

I would say take it in and have the dealership check it out... but of course you only have a 325 miles on it so according to them you shouldn't be hitting 6000 RPM! LOL! BTW, i'm one of those guys that doesn't follow the user manual... I've basically followed the hard acceleration break in method for years... never a problem!

As for your situation... first things that come to mind...

1) Your tach is off. Given a speed and gear you can calculate what your RPMs should be.

2) Check your connections under the hood... make sure the plug for the MAF housing is plugged in good and the clip is locked. (The MAF is the sensor in the air intake tube right next to the air filter)

3) Possibly bad gas.... or defective/clogged fuel filter...

those are just a few things I could think of...

I got about 10k miles on her an have got up to 140 ish pretty easily. and on an open highway you do need to watch your speed 100 can creep up on you and you wont even notice in 6th its only turning at just around the 3k rpm mark. love this thing!
