In the Corvette is there a difference in the rear diff between the base, GS, Z06 and ZR1?

I know it's been said before but it bears repeating. How can they not make a 5th gen Z28? Why make arguably one of the most successful Camaro generations the only without a Z28? All the pieces are in place. All engineering challenges and bean counting considered, the pros far outweigh the cons. There is no excuse, not even weight, that is enough to keep many Camaro enthusiasts from their dream.

The ZL1 is geared for road racing, on long straights and open courses. At speed it flies like the wind. Chevy shuts down the fuel and RPM down too soon on it. It can manage a short course if one keeps the R's way up in the bends to step out because of the weight and underpower of the the LSA. Decidedly its not enough to be a convinced winner hands down to the Ford Mustang in all catagories. Ultimately an increase in the trans gearing, final drive ratio and a LS power plant increment will be the deciding factor in where we are heading.

Honest question.....had the current ZL1 been badged a Z/28...would that have satisfied the demands of most people waiting on the Z/28? Think before you answer and please be objective in your response.

The ZL1 as is was not built in the spirit of the Z28. This is obviously why GM changed its name from Z28 to ZL1. Think of the Z28 as a Z06 and the ZL1 as a ZR1. |

It would be interesting to see how an LS7 Z28 would fair against the ZL1 on a track. Would it be completely outclassed or would it be similar to the Z06 Carbon vs the ZR1 where the Z06 was almost if not just as fast. |
