yes, unless it comes with a CARB certification number. Any modification is illegal (even just changing the mufflers) unless it's certified by CARB.

Some smog guys are cool, others are textbook. Hell, there are some people that hook up your car, then bring in a friend's car that's bone stock to pass you automatically. It's very hit and miss as to what kind of smog person you get. You have like 4 years after you buy it until your first smog so it might not matter for a while.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm
"Owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification" Its 6 years for us in Cali. A cam would be easier to sneek bye then LT headers as long as its a mild cam. Mindz your crazy changing your muffs is not illegal man, as long as there within DB limit. heres what th rule book says for CHP regulation aftermarket exhaust modifications do not in and of themselves violate muffler noise regulations unless the modifications result in noise levels exceeding California's 95-decibel limit. personally I will not cam or tune my car until warranty in caput or i get a gm performance one that is covered under warranty by dealer. LT headers, are still looking good though.

when i had my mustang, i had a CAI and tune with an axleback. when i took it in to the dealer, i would swap out my CAI for my stock airbox and reflash to stock. never had any warranty issues. obviously, the swap would be more difficult with a cam however. my exhaust was pretty loud, but i never had issues with cops because i wasn't revving it like an idiot.
basically, you can get any mod you want now and you'll be fine but any type of possible warranty issues and you need to swap back to stock to keep your warranty. then once your 6 years are up, you need to be able to pass for smog. from my understanding, as long as you don't throw an engine code you should pass smog now. |

You can change mufflers all you want as long as they don't violate the DB standard, mufflers are not part of the emission equipment. Everything from the catalytic converters back is open game for mods, everything in front of those cats must carry a EO number from CARB. So yes a cam will not be legal unless it is CARB certified for 2010 Camaro. |

When you "reflashed to stock" are you saying you had a computer to change back to stock settings? Was that hard to do? will camaro come out with this for us? |

Tell me what you guys think.. MY PLAN --
1. CAI $350 2. Axle back Exhaust (SLP's loudmouth- yes thats withOUT a muffler $580) 3. SLP Long tube headers high flow cats deleted Res. (Called today, $1999.95) 4. Tune (have tune shop set up a "stock" mode and High perf. mode $550 Unless I'm blind and zoom by one of San Diego's finest (V1 Radar detector), I should be ok with sound levels (this set up sounds down right NASTY). Come SMOG time.. switch out CAI, remove Lt's put back stock pipes. Re-tune back to "stock" mode ($100) So I don't have to worry for 6 years.. then every other year I spend 4 hours changing out exhaust... |

Why not go ARH header at that price. Cheaper and better gains.
