LPE gear noise???

I just installed a stock diff with LPE 3.70 gears in my car, it is supposed to have around 2500 miles on it. It has what sounds like a gear whine at normal highway speeds. If I get over 70 or so the noise seems to quit, or if I'm under 45 it sounds OK. Is this a normal thing with aftermarket gear sets? If I let off the gas it will quit for a couple seconds and then start again[not as loud though] I have only driven it about 5 miles so far.
I used royal purple 75/90 lube, would 90/140 help this at all. I also wondered if it could possibly be bearing issues? With 2500 miles I wouldn't think so.

Yes aftermarket gears will be noisier than factory to some extent, especially if you have aftermarket bushings installed. If they are really loud, they may be damaged or installed incorrectly.

I had 4.10s, they whined, then broke, but thats not why. Wheel hop got them.

Now I have my 3.45s back in and they whine, same speed you describe. I think it has to do with the wear pattern. You can't install used gears and not have them whine.

It does have solid bushings in it. I looked at the gears and can't see and wear with the naked eye, but maybe thats not possible. Its not loud just a little annoying.

Bad thing is I've done countless gear swaps and fords will accept used gears and not whine. You have typical gear noise that won't change with pinion or backlash movement.

Right, but I don't really care. I will be swapping out again some day so I just either speed up or slow down when it really starts to get at me.

I didn't change the gears, I put in the entire diff that was already setup with these gears? The person I got from did talk about wheel hop issues, so maybe it messed up a bearing or something.

It's unlikely that a bearing got damaged from wheel hop but the gears weren't affected.

Can the rear be setup again to fix it or is it to late once they have been run. I have read that some people are adjusting them and it works OK but alot off people say I would need to get new ring and pinion. To those who say they can't be adjusted and fix it does that meen the noise won't go away or will it actually hurt the gear? If it would help the gears last even though the noise doesn't go away I would do it. I was told to get them micropolished and them setup again.

LPE 3.70's are made by AAM who makes the entire Camaro diff for GM so they really aren't aftermarket. I have AAM/LPE 3.70's in my car and they are factory quiet.

I recently had AAM 3.91 gears installed in my diff. Here are the breakin instructions my installer gave me:

The break in is VERY specific.

-Drive 30-35 MPH for 20-30 minutes.
-Drive 55-60 MPH for 20-30 minutes.
-Come to a complete stop and let the diff cool (15 minutes minimum)
This is one cycle. Repeat this cycle 4-5 times. If you don't do this EXACTLY, the diff WILL whine. 500 miles will be needed for a full break in.

Maybe this was not done?

Who did the install for you guys? Would be nice to talk to them for advice. I have heard micro polishing may help as it makes a fresh surface. Thinking about doing this, for $50 its worth a try I guess
