New windshield

I was quoted $515 for a new front windshiled because I have remote start and a heads up display?

$175 for a regular windshield??

WTF does remote start have to do with it?

I need a new one too. But I have remote start. I'll disconect the remote start if I can save 300.00+ on a new windshield.

The heads up display is what makes it expensive. At a dealer or any other place the remote start and normal ones were the same price.

The sensor for remote start would be blocked by a non remote start windshield. I believe the HUD requires a special coating on the windshield.

$515 sounds like a deal. I paid $650 in 2010 for a non HUD windshield replacement and install.

This is the dumbest design I have ever seen on a vehicle and it makes me want to get rid of the car. Whoever designed this for such an expensive replacement part should be fired! Remote start works off an antenna just like aftermarket systems. This is a field I am currently in and it should have nothing to do with a windshield. The heads up display i can somewhat understand but its just the way it reflects correct?

a widnshield gets damaged everyday and for $600 plus dollars this is a stupid design flaw in the camaro. My wife's Lexus has a rain sensor, auto start (which doesnt get effected by the windshield), and a film built in for glare and her windshield in less than $300 on a $60,000 car!

Im a little heated right now Im not going to lie because it is just outrageous this cost so much. I could replace the windshield and it could get cracked next week. I cant even drive the car.

Im sure insurance companies arent going to like this one bit either. A huge cost to them.

Wow it's only $425 around here for mine with remote start or with out it. The only difference is how big the black spot is around the mirror.

Why are you getting your windshield replaced? Your insurance should cover it and it would cost you nothing. Plus your rates won't go up. I had to replace my windshield 3 months ago and I just got my notification for my semi-annual payment and it didn't go up.

My insurance has a $500 deductable??? Who's insurance replaces a $500 plus windshield for free?

I dont see any sensors other than the Bosch module for the defroster on my windshield. The heads up illuminates onto the windshield and the remote start is an antenna???

This is retarded.

Varies from state to state. Florida has a law requiring insurance companies to replace one per year for free.

Here in Alabama we have to pay a full deductible or pay for the windshield. I keep all my cars at 1000.00 deductible. If I lower to 500.00 then I'm tempted to use it over 500.00 worth of damage and they raise my rates if I do. We've had work done to Bonnies Lexus, her Vette and our Jeep. All between 500.00 and 900.00 and just paid for all out of pocket but would have used the insurance had it been 500.00 but our rates then would go up.

So, ya, I have to pay full price for a windshield too.

This is just nuts to me.

I just want an educated explanation why the heads up display and the remote start wont work with a regular windshield?

The remote start is an antenna type deal but I dont see it in the glass. I also see nothing special about the heads up display in the glass other than it just illuminating onto the glass from the dash.

I had mine replaced in mid 2010. No after market replacement glass was available at that time, had to go OEM, and well, the checkbook took a hit.

Your HUD won't be as crisp with a regular windshield but its not a bad option if upset about the price of a windshield.

Ouch. My insurance company says that I have a $500 deductible. Less money for mods!
