GAS GUZZLER TAX

I know some states are not like oklahoma on tag fees but I told my dealer that when I purchase my car from them the gas guzzler tax is in the msrp of the car. Now,the price I pay for the car is less than the msrp but still includes the gas guzzler tax. When I go to the tag office they see what I payed for the car on the paper work from the dealer and it still will have the gas guzzler tax included. I have explained to them[dealer] that they need to delete the gas guzzler tax from the paper work that I take to the tag office because they will have me paying taxes on taxes and they said they could not do that. I do not believe this is right so has anyone else had this problem or even thought about it?

They won't waive it because it's a federal law and yes it sucks you have to pay tax for a tax, but you have to pay to play unfortunately.

Yep it sucks but everyone pays it and there's no getting around it. For us it's actually a reimbursement to GM, because they are the ones who are actually getting taxed. Lucky us, suppose they could have just hidden it under another fee or built into the price and no one would be the wiser or complain.

At least for the M6 they slap on skip shift or it would be $2600 like the autos. And that's easily defeated for about $15.

You still have to pay it but the tax is $1300 on the manual transmission and double that on the automatic.

Contact your state's Sales and Use Tax division to clarify. Unless your state is different than mine, you should not have to pay sales tax on anything that is non-taxable....IE., labor charges, and other taxes. Although I've never bought a vehicle that required it, the gas-guzzler tax, I would think, should have been broken out as a separate line item on the invoice. When you showed the invoice to the DMV or whoever you get your tags from, they should have only charged the sales tax on the actual cost of the vehicle...not the additional taxes, etc. Of course, I could be wrong......

lol, skip shift delete = total waste of cash. everyone cries about skip shift since the SS in 2010. ive owned both SS and ZL-1 and not even known skip shift was there unless I leave a traffic light behind someones grandma. if you drive with a slightly heavier foot you will never see the skip shift rear its ugly face.

Yeah, I put up with it as long as I could in my SS. Try driving around here behind all the Priuses, Subarus, and everything else the local hippies drive to save that extra teaspoon full of gas. I can afford the $15.

The problem is, even though it's a separate line item it's not a TAX it's a reimbursement to GM and is 100% taxable. GM is the ones paying the actual TAX ... It's kinda like any other option ordered, but this is standard for all ZL1's.

I asked the sales manager about sales tax on the GG tax and he said it was taxable. It has to be itemized on the window sticker to allow for the difference in price. At least the luxuary tax on cars over $50k from 10 years ago is gone.
