In-Car Video from Daytona
Hey guys, I figured I would post this here so you could see a little Camaro vs Camaro battle during the GRAND-AM race at Daytona just a few weeks ago. The Mitchum Motorsports team walked away with two top10 finishes for their teams cars the #6.2 and the #6. Here you are riding along in the #6.2 car battling for 3rd place about one hour into the race with fellow Camaro driver Matt Bell in his Stevenson #9.
Let me know if you guys have any questions! Joey Last edited by Jatterbu; 02-17-2011 at 08:48 AM. |

Sweet video Joey! I did have a question for you... with the 18" wheels, what gear did you guys use? And, what was your top speed on the front straight? I did 172 on my Ducati 848 last time I raced Daytona but I could only manage a 1:58 best lap.. :-) You guys were doing 50-51s yes?

Per the GRAND-AM rules we have to keep the OEM final drive ratio and also the stock transmission in the car, it is 'identical' to a street car SS with respect to gear ratio's. All of the GS cars had a top speed of right around 165-170mph, a few mph less without a draft, this was basically topping out 5th gear for us all the way to our mandatory fuel cut at 6800rpm. For lap times, my fastest lap during the race was a 1:58.1 and our fastest time of the weekend was in the 57's. The cars that were doing 50-51's were the Rolex GT spec cars, with a few of them in qualifying trim dipping down into the 47's and 48's! I know it's not a Camaro but I also drove a Porsche in Rolex GT at Daytona which competes against the Autohaus and Stevenson Camaro's. To give you guys a reference here is a video of testing a few weeks ago in a Rolex Porsche GT3 Cup spec car, top speed is about 180mph. These cars all use sequential transmissions where there is no need for a clutch once the car gets rolling, 100% throttle no-lift upshifts, simply pull back the gear lever for upshift and push forward with rev-match for a downshift.
