How To Install Catch Can on a ZL1

People have been wanting a detailed write up on this. Before you go jumping me, Tracy and I resolved our differences so I went with an RX catch can. I bought it from Jannetty Racing.

First remove your engine cover

Then you can locate the tubing you need to remove

To remove the tubing, get a flathead screwdriver and use it to unclasp the connector

Then connect the vacuum hose to the ports

To mount the can, you have to attach it to the radiator shroud, and you will need a longer bolt than the one in the current housing, to get this you take it from the upper radiator mount here, I bent the bracket that came with the kit myself to help move it out of the way.

Then place it between the shroud and the radiator, this makes a small gap, but I don't think it will affect cooling at all

Here it is in place, the larger base diameter valve is the outlet, the one in the middle is the inlet

Then I looked as I shut the hood to make sure I had clearance, I had tons

After that start the engine, check for CEL, check all connections for a vacuum leak, and you are done, for those of you wondering about the mounting area being stiff enough, it is, and the rubber bumpers of the shroud and upper radiator mount look like they will absorb much of the vibration

Why would you get a CEL?

Thanks!

Kinked hose, leaking connection, hole in hose you don't see. Basically an increase or decrease in crank case pressure if something isn't right.

Thanks for taking time to write this up. It really looks like an easy worthwhile mod. I need to order one.

I have only ever seen the 3rd one hook up to an aftermarket intake. I would hook it up like the one listed above and put a vacuum plug on the 3rd port.

Jimmy: Great write-up man!

RJ: We are putting the directions on our website actually, just reformatting them for the web. I can send you over the directions via email real quick. I just PM'd you for your email address.

Single or Dual cans can be used on the ZL1's. We have been sending the latest ZL1 cans with the dual valve.

Thanks

Matt

Excellent Jimmy!!!

With the dual valve, connect the secondary valve line to the air bridge or coupler so when at WOT any excess crankcase pressure is evacuated using the suction upstream of the tb.

If using the single valve like Jimmy shows your fine as is.

The ZL1 has a pretty effective oil trap on the cleanside (congrats GM!) so we only need to deal with the dirty side on these engines and the dual valve uses the inlet side as additional suction/evac as needed and the checkvalve prevents any mixing with the cleanside.

This might be a stupid question but...... If you take the longer bolt from the upper radiator mount, what do you replace it with?
