Easy DIY License plate Mod

Easy DIY License plate Mod

Ok, so like many, the thought of a license plate frame bring drilled into a bumper is a very scary thought. If you do not want to spend the money on a hid away, or need something in a pinch, you can actually use the factory one, in a slightly different way.

Tools: Drill, Screw Driver, Snips
Purchase Rubber Pads, Zip Ties.

Step 1.
Find the centerline of the factory plate holder. You will use this to line it us with the center of the car nose.

Step 2.
Flip the holder. That right down is up and up is down.

Step 3.
Purchase 4 rubber pads with adhesive tape at your local hardware. These are ones like you might use on the bottom of a chair, or electronic equipment. Adhere these, one each, to the 4 posts, used to attach original holder to the bumper. These pads will rest the holder against the bottom edge of the front fascia of the car.

Step 4.
From the top (originally bottom) of the holder mark a line at 1 ¼”. Draw this line across the entire surface

Step 5.
From the right and left sides, make marks on that line in step 4, at 1 ½” and 2 ½”.

Step 6.
Drill holes at these marks, slightly larger than the zip ties you have purchased. If you get larger zip ties in the future, drill larger holes.

Step 7.
Run the zip ties though the holes you have drilled.

Step 8. Attached the frame, by lining up the center line (step 1), with the nose of the car. Use the original frame cutouts, to position the frame on the grill. Complete the zip tie assembly and pull tight.

Step 9
Trim Zip ties

Step 10
Replace the license Plate

This took all of about ten minutes to complete and I hope you find it useful.

I have my original bumper cover w/ drilled holes but have found it doesn't look bad after installing a painted to match plate frame to make the plates look smaller.

I just used two toggle bolts to hold mine in. No drilling and it took about 2 minutes.
