zl1 rear main seal leaks?
Yes I did a search for this topic and found none. Have any of you had this issue. Mine is currently at the dealer to have this replaced as mine failed at just under 15k miles. Super charger while its there as well. Thanks in advance.

Catch can will help relieve the crankcase pressure and give you the added benefit of not letting the blow-by oil be recirculated back into your engine and causing carbon built up on your cylinder heads.

Please help me understand something. I've seen this stated a few times lately and I am having trouble grasping how a catch can placed inline on the PCV port helps relieve pressure. Isn't the catch can a sealed piece? If not, wouldn't that result in a vacuum leak? Are we talking about the same port (bottom of snout to valley pan)?

I have a rx performance catch can, that however is not what I was asking about here. Am I the only one that has had this happen??? I know I race my car a lot, however so do a lot of people.

I blew a rear seal drag racing. I have gone through a few options in crankcase ventilation since then. Tried some different filters on the valve covers but the pressure was getting so high, oil was actually blowing through the filter into the engine bay. I now have a couple of large custom catch cans.
This attached post is really about a rear seal issue. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=394071 I don't think that many have had the problem on the ZL1. I have had my limiter at 7000 rpm from time to time and think that contributed to mine going. It never hurts to have more good ventilation.

How did you know your seal was leaking? Was it leaving that much oil on the floor?

I am currently having this issue, posted about it in another thread. I called Tyler at JDP motorsports today and bought their E2 catch can. You can actually order it with an option that runs another line to your CAI to vent crankcase pressure, so it has 1 inlet and 2 outlets....I just ordered the stock setup. I wasn't understanding his directions on the install for the other setup. Anyways, that is an option there as well as the MightyMouse catch can that has the filter on top. I just don't like to looks of it.

SO I am anticipating a similar issue ... Run mine HARD ... No can currently, like the idea of the filtered CC but, heard some not so nice reviews on the Mighty Mouse.
On another note ... wouldn't a can releasing additional ("bad") air into CAI (throttle body) negatively affect performance, or is the amount so minimal it makes mo difference? |

The PCV hose that goes to the can used to have a PCV valve in it in the older LS engines. Now there is a restrictor built into the tube coming from the lifter valley cover. So this is not the tube or hose you want to use to vent excess pressure. That restrictor is only going to let so much out. The ports at the valve covers is where you would vent excess pressure if you're running a whole lot of boost.
