not really. three of the biggest player in the business, Toyota, Honda, and Nissan, have never offered anything more than 5/60. 100k power train warranties is more of a gimmick companies that have had checkered pasts with reliability use to lure customers back. by dropping it GM is more or less saying they have enough confidence in what they're building that they don't need to guarantee it all the way out to 100k

as mentioned above, the Japanese car companies have not been affected one bit by 60k warranties.

Yeah but I mean even though they might be a small portion of consumers, look at the comments in the article. I mean all darn near 1,000 of them are upset customers not happy with the change.

Saying that it wont hurt sales is a far stretch.

the proof is in the pudding. Japanese cars have exploded in sales over the last 20 yrs and have never offered 100k warranties, still dont. toyota, for example, sells 20X as many 6ok warranty camry's as GM does 100k warranty Malibu's. maybe 30X. a 100k warranty says to a lot of people that the manufacture expects you to have problems. it's why Hyundai, Chrysler, and GM had to start offering them. people didn't trust the vehicles and would not buy one without it. If GM is dropping it, they obviously feel as though they've turned that corner and people no longer fear long term problems with their vehicles. If it hurts sales, it's because people still think they're junk and inferior to Asian cars.

A big GM mistake!

While this really does not matter much for something like my Zl1 which I don't drive as much and do not buy as many....

But for the 1 ZL1 I have purchased...I have purchased 4 GM trucks new.

This is now making my next truck an easy choice. Was tossed between the sierra and Ram...and now I will definitely be getting the RAM!

Which brands actually need the 100K warranty?

Still, offering more can only be a plus, and even though dropping it down may or may not mean that GM is more confident in their quality, from the perspective of the majority of buyers, I would think offering less warranty is a bad decision, as it does imply that GM is less confident in their product, not more.

Cars are selling good enough post-recession in a warming economy, and GM isn't hungry enough for business, so they're cutting costs in a place where they don't think it will hurt sales. Plain and simple. If you're in the market for a 2016 Camaro, are you NOT going to buy it because it doesn't come with a 100k warranty anymore?

How many of you think you'll actually keep your car until 100k?

How many of you think you'll hit 100k in 5 years? (because the warranty ends whichever comes first).

Hyundai was the one that leveled the market with its 100k warranty. It was virtually unheard of, and this was back when GM/Ford were still doing 3/36. The Germans were still doing 4/50k bumper to bumper. Longer warranties are only a more recent thing, and now that sales are back, manufacturers aren't doing anything they don't have to in order to move product.

I've merged again and retitled the thread. Do you guys realized there's actually a warranty forum? It's helpful to keep warranty talk in the warranty forum so you can find it later.

You all are over reacting.
Well , all we see is recalls from GM in the news and all over so it's different from the other 2!

Dodge allows you to purchase a lifetime warranty on the whole car if you want, and still offers the 5/100k.

So here come GM on the heal of the recalls, bailouts, etc...and reduce the warranty???

Just not smart. I bought my last GM.
This! Plus cars are getting harder and harder to work so the 100k mile warranty makes a difference because we'll be taking in our cars and getting charge a ridiculous amount just for the smallest fix. So most of us count on the dealer to fix stuff because they make cars so complicated now!
