V8 to V6 ratio

I talked to my dealer over the weekend about pre-ordering my SS. The owner is a friend of the family and we have been buying cars from him for over 20 years. His dealership has 4 slots open for pre-ordering. The first two are both SS's and mine will be the third. Now he says that the factory is "strongly encouraging" dealers to order 50/50 V8's to V6's. I explained to him how much I frequent this site and had the understanding that GM wasn't regulating what could be ordered as long as it was within the dealer's allocation and that v6's are even on constraint as of now. He repeated that its just what the factory told him but he would still put the order in and see what happens.

Just double check me, there isn't any known document that says dealers must keep SS/V6 orders or sales at an even ratio is there? search came up fruitless. Im 95% sure the factory would accept and build a sold order rather than 2 v6 lot cars that don't have owners yet just to keep the ratio even, but I guess I'm just looking for some reassurance.

Thanks in advance, love this site

While I cannot give a definitive answer, I am almost posotive that dealers DO NOT need to meet a certain V6/V8 ratio.

The factory is setup to build a 50/50 ratio, at least early on. However, dealers are not limited to any sort of ratio. There may come a time in the not-so-distant future when v8 orders are put on partial constraint.

Thanks guys that's pretty much what I was thinking/hoping. They will get through the preorders and then once "normal" production starts they will start constraining. I just didn't want to be left out in the cold if I put the order in there and GM didn't pull it for production till way later this year because the dealer had made it's V8 quota.
