You can't lose with either the Malibu or Cruze; I am biased towards the Malibu. Malibus are roomy, quiet and dependable; They also have a nice looking appearance.

I can tell you're a Chevy guy but there's better stuff out there. I hate Malibu's so much, you're right knee will hurt with the weird cut of the center console. Never been in a cruze

Cruze diesel!
Why? - Resale value will be higher for the diesel. http://www.cars.com/go/alg/index.jsp# - Still comfortable. - Oh man, the gas savings!! Just make sure the stations have diesel. - Cost slightly less than a Malibu |

This is a good idea. I had a new Impala as a long term rental last fall. Really nice car, and it has the same v6 as the Camaro.

My wife has a cruze and loves it. Looking to upgrade to a bigger vehicle though with our expanding family.

As of today, consider the Chevrolet Volt. It's a 4 door hatchback, based on the Cruze chassis. It's got good acceleration and gets about 35-40mpg highway, and will climb any grade at past the speed limit. Steep long grade = 88mph.
When you run it on gasoline. Now, when you run it off of electricity, it's quicker, faster (96mph on same steep grade), and costs $1.10 for the first 40 miles of driving.

Based on what? The fact it's a Chevy and we're om a Chevy forum? The Jetta is lighter, has a better transmission, it's roomier, it's quieter on the inside and cheaper by 2 grand.

You need to compare the two trim levels. The "stripper" Jetta TDI is $2k cheaper. The normal model is the same price.
The Cruze gets better hwy mileage, bigger tank, more headroom, better warranty, OnStar, more HP, more TQ, and a fully automatic trans instead of a clutchless semi-auto. Volkswagens are not known for reliability, and the Jetta TDI is no different.

I feel like the Camaro is a pretty decent highway cruiser especially in the V6 models.
BUT, if you really want to save money and still have a good freeway ride you should consider the Sonic 1.4L Turbo, a little bit more fun than the 'bu and Cruze and it's better on gas and cheaper to own.

I would go with the V6 Camaro. But I can't stand driving anything else.

And design is subjective but Volkswagen seems to be competing with Toyota in the "who can design the most boring appliance on wheels" contest, and Jetta is a pretty strong contender both inside and out.

Quite a large gap between Chevrolet and Volkswagen in the rankings.
