So im purchasing a 2014 1SS this weekend and im not sure if you noticed but i have a 2007 v6 mustang currently. There is nothing I want to do more than floor that sucker off the lot and enjoy that massive v8 for the first time. HOWEVER, I am aware of the break in period of the car and how to properly break in the engine. So my question is, will flooring the car once or twice and then treating the car like a queen for the rest of the break in period cause any damage to the car?!

EDIT: I should mention it is the L99 (automatic) not the LS3 engine!

Drive it like how you want to - some ppl say that's how you break an engine.
Roll the dice , you might get different opinions though.
I would follow the break in though cuz I wouldn't want to risk it.

But I don't think any damage will be done if you has it once or twice

You will get differing opinions for sure. I broke it in with a mix of different methods.

I didn't completely abuse mine but I wasn't gentle at all either. I've had my car for over 4 years and almost 20k miles with no issue.

I say have a little fun. Stretch out the gears and stuff but probably wait until after the break in period before taking it to the track.

If this is your first time with the LS3, you'll probably get enough thrill under 4k to keep you satisfied until the break-in period is up. The tremec 6-speed in those cars is a little notchy and might come with a learning curve if you're used to a soft feeling clutch and easygoing gearbox in your Mustang. If the new SS was mine, I wouldn't floor it or redline it in the break-in period, but I would stretch its legs and get a few good pulls in, i.e. 3rd-5th up to about 80 or so.

He lays out a pretty good case for breaking it in hard. Though I admit I'm a novice, it seems logical to me.

it's under warranty...if it's going to break, better it breaks now.

That being said...rings and cylinders need time to make grooves and seat properly. If you over rev the engine before this "transfer" of contact completes, you for sure will increase you chance of blow by and lost compression later on. And I'm really talking about the higher output (4000 rpm and above), but these microscopic paths will leak if not properly seated.
Run the car, don't be afraid to get on the gas...but just be diligent and conservative when you do it until you get past 1500-2000 miles. Then, lay into it.

Get a good radar detector - you driving an SS Camaro is a target on your back from our friends in the LEO community.

Well, I think you break in all engines the same way. With new technologies in play with these new engines, I'd drive it as you like it. Remember a few things as you drive your new Camaro.
1. The engine oil is much better now. It is engineered to take the higher RPMs and heat generated to fully lubricate all internal parts. I'd give it a 5 minute warm-up.
2. The radiator fluid/coolant is like the oil. It is engineered to take the higher operating temps and is supposed to give at least 50k miles, can't remember the exact figure. So you could give the radiator, thermostat, water pump etc. a good workout with no worries.
3. Transmission and diff. These fluids and oils also are engineered for high performance. Just some things remain the same, don't grind the gears for obvious reasons, don't ride the clutch due to early wearout of the clutch parts, don't ride the shift due to linkage wearout. Drive it and have fun, that's what it's for!

I broke my 14' by taking it to it's limits and now it's 3000 miles strong and running smoother each day!

2 years 6 months 44k an still running strong. Floored from the start. Road course action and the rest no problemos.

Your choice, of course, but the first two break-in (1,500 miles) "Do Nots" in the manual state:

*Avoid full throttle starts and abrupt stops

*Do not exceed 4000 engine rpm

And if you are going to ignore the recommendations in the manual, I wouldn't show my ass leaving the parking lot of the dealership where you will possibly be returning to, when something breaks.
