This. Right. Here! I LOVE 3rd gens. Got one here that's a work in progress. Have them both and be happy!

great advice...
get a carmax quote AND a KBB trade in estimate.

The KBB got me an extra $5,000 on my trade in a couple weeks ago.

He started at $19,000 then I showed him what I printed from KBB.... he moved his trade in offer to $24,000, ($175 away from the KBB estimate). DEAL.

Mike- My Story is all too similar. My Dad and I bought a 1979 Z28 when I was 14 (not quite 5), but with the idea that we were going to restore it and it would be my first car. I drove the Camaro through High School, and we parked it in my Dad's garage until I graduated college. In the meantime I drove a Cobalt SS that I had my dad co-sign for me and I just made the payments as I worked through college and paid that off. I got a decent job after college, bought a house, and saved, saved saved. The 79 needs a full body resto, but I wanted a new Camaro. So the money I had saved to do the resto on the 79, I threw a chunk of it into the new Camaro (yes, I have investments, this was my play money). I did NOT trade in the Cobalt..it's actually for sale now. And there the 79 Sits. Waiting for the restoration. but in the mean time, I get to drive my new Camaro, and its just as fun! DO IT! You won't regret it.

**UPDATE**
Bought the car yesterday! Subaru now for sale. The GREAT news is, with the deal my parents cut me, I was able to get a loan and will now be able to start buying parts for the IROC with the leftover money from the Subie sale.

I know, I know. Thread is worthless without pics. Will post on Sunday when I pick up my baby!

I say go for it. I did the same thing last year. I used the money I had saved for a new engine/trans for my '79 Monte as a down payment for my Camaro.

The Monte will still get finished, and I have a sweet Camaro to drive in the meantime. Absolutely no regrets. You won't have any either.

Nice ride man! I am double jealous right now. The IROCZ was the car that got me into cars way back in 1985 when I started driving. I had one for a few months before it was stolen, stripped and left out in the pouring rain without its T-Tops frying the electronics back in 1994. I know I would still have it if it hadn't been stolen. I loved that car. To have an IROC and a new SS would be the ultimate. Congrats on the great deal on the new ride and take your time restoring the vert and do it right.
