Driver information center GPS?

Is this something only available for use through OnStar? So after the 1yr of free use, you have to pay to get GPS directions or it becomes unusable?

That's what I got out of the conversation I had with them when I got my car. With everything they offer, I thought the annual rate was pretty reasonable. You should be able to pick and choose your package, though. Not sure how much the GPS would be.

Yes after your free trial you will have to pay to use the GPS. It is $28.90 a month of $299 a year (not including sales tax).

Actually, Mr_Draco is correct, GPS is $299 / Year, not $399. Check the OnStar website. I think what you are referring to is the Safe & Sound package, w/ the Direction & Connections "Upgrade" for an additional $100 for the 1st year of paid service. But he wasn't quoting the S&S Package, he was just quoting the D&C Package price.

From what I understand they have a pay per month option only, other then yearly. You can activate it for one month, if lets say you know you are going on a trip, but you can't pay per use... At least not from what I've been told.

Check the link above you get a lot more than GPS, it has a built in lojack feature that allows the cops to slow your car down and lock it out if stolen. Emergency assistance, auto crash response, towing, telephone unlock (if you lock your keys in the car or lose them) and a live person to talk to any time to get directions and information about anything.

I just got my renewal notice for OnStar, and it will be $31.39/month for me here in NY to have the same features that I currently have with the 1 yr free trial period.....didn't realize it would be that expensive....

The lowjack feature is different than actually having lojack though. Onstar might not be able to locate it if under trees or a roof, anything that blocks the sat signal. LoJack works off FM and can find the vehicle most of the time.

I also had LoJack put on my Daughter's SGM.

Yes but Lojack can't disable the car. While I agree FM is the better way to go for tracking the vehicle, shutting it down on the spot is pretty good as well.
