it's programed that way so you don't lock your self out by leaving the keys in the ingnition .you have to be seated in the drivers seat for the fob to work. lock the door manualy from the passenger side

Here's how you do it: Go to the car. Turn on car and set the climate controls to whatever you need while the monkey is in the car. Turn off the car. Put monkey in car. Remote start... lock, start. Runs for up to 20 mins. Too easy.
