Playing Music Stored On Smartphone

I got an iphone with a thousand songs on it hook up to the usb and it plays great the songs show up on my radio screen and i can advance to the next song using the button on steering wheel. My only prob is that when i disconnect the next time i hook up it starts up on the first song on the list instead of picking up where it left off but im fine with it .
