Question Noise After Dealer Supercharger Replacement

Hey all. Had the dealer replace the supercharger about 2 months ago after the extended warranty issue on my 2013 ZL1. Ever since they replaced it I've heard what sounds like a minor vibration/noise at 800 RPM or so. Doesn't matter if the clutch is in or not. Its most apparent when starting out in first as I pass through that band, but I can hear it if I purposely cruise in 2nd or 3rd enough to drop it to about 800 RPM (Not normally how I drive).

I've brought it back to the dealer twice now and they insist its normal. But I call BS because if it were normal a) Why would it only have done it after the replacement supercharger only? b) I don't hear it in other ZL1s I've been in. The dealership claimed the "marbles in the jar" noise I had on idle was normal too when I bought it and look what happened with that... so my faith in their diagnosis of this is low.

The noise is not very loud and sounds very similar to what it'd sound like if you were bogging the engine down by being in too high a gear at too low a speed. Like a very faint gear chatter.

Am I being overly sensitive about this? Has anyone else that has had a supercharger replaced under warranty on their ZL1 and/or normally noticing this noise as well? I'm concerned as they noted they had to lower the subframe to get the supercharger out and now that has changed the alignment of something between the engine and the driveline or what not.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's normal. It's the noise the spring actuated coupler was designed to reduce. Now with a solid coupler it will be heard in certain situations. It was explained in the TSB Posted in this forum.

That's great input. I had my SC swapped out a couple of weeks ago and I've heard it, as well. Sometimes I think I'm hearing things in my head and not in the car.
Thanks.

I had mine done 3 weeks ago and got to drive it home and then back to the dealer. It has been there ever since. But not for the warranty work, but for the front end damage that a porter caused with a truck. They sent me an email saying it was completed. I go to look at it and the first thing I noticed was the black onyx CAMARO on the driver side fender was not on the car. The paint wasn't wetsanded and then buffed out and it was not test paneled first. So the door has a gray tint to it and does not match the mirror, door handle or the rear Quarter. Also I had them do a red pinstripe around the black insert and stripes but the guy didn't do that right either. How in the he'll does it go through QC and over to detail. This is really starting to kiss me off now. I told them that if I could tell if it was painted that I would not except it. This the third dealership that I has damaged my car. I am also dealing with another one that damaged my wheels and I can't get that fixed until I get it back from the other.

Yep, that's the exact verbiage from the SC TSB.

Any guesses if this will have any long term effects on the supercharger? Guess its kinda moot even if so since its now covered until 120k...

120k miles isn't a lot. I'll likely hit that next year. I'm now getting my third supercharger and only hope this one survives. I can't see this new flutter as being good for the supercharger.

I've had the noise ever since I had mine replaced a month ago, took it back and they said its fine. Just give it a bit more gas to get rolling and it goes away.

My question is for those who did the solid coupler on their own do they experience the same thing or not?

Anybody have a video of their "flutter" noise after the replacement?

I got back today from replacement and between 800-900 its loud as hell. Sounds almost like a bearing noise/rattle. I can't imagine this is normal and if it is, then wtf GM...wtf...

I'll post up a video when I get a chance.
