squeaky drivebelt!

On the way home just now I started to notice upon acceleration a squeaking sound (much like the sound of a squeaky drivebelt--im almost certain thats what it is).. also it started raining (only drove it in the rain twice so far)... I really don't want to have to drive all the way to the dealer, wait like 2 hours only to find out all they had to do was tighten a bolt. Is there anyway I can tighten the belt myself? if not, i guess i can have them look at it when i go get my plates/oil change...

Could be the belt tensioner, best to have a dealer or mechanic check it out. If it is the belt tensioner, the belt will eventually snap and leave you stranded.

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can tighten or adjust to fix it......needs to go to the dealer as mentioned above.

I agree with the above posts. New car, it is very unlikely that it is a bad belt. Tension on the belt in auto-adjusted by the belt tensioner. I would agree, it is a belt tensioner that needs inspection. Get it checked out immediately.

ok, I probably shouldnt have but I sprayed a tiny drop of belt dressing on it but it only got worse (which confirms that it IS the belt)... but i'm going to the dealer tomorrow at 7:30... hopefully this will be fixed. is it OK to drive for today? I wouldnt want the belt to snap or anything, and I will have to drive 20 miles to the dealer so..

That doesn't comfirm anything......if anything it would confirm to me that it's not the belt, my educated guess is that it's the belt tensioner. If it is the belt tensioner, your belt could snap at anytime and leave you stranded. I would drive it to the dealer and take your chances, if it snaps, you have roadside assistance and they'll have to tow it the rest of the way.

actually thats what i meant, the tensioner, or the fact that the belt isnt tight enough
