Years ago, a friend drained all his tranny oil then without checking poured 6 more quarts in his engine! He smoked the starter when he went to crank it up. Lucky for him, that was the only damage other than having to buy a bunch of oil! You did just fine compared to him!!!!!!!!!

Man, that was harsh. Funny and true, but harsh!

Take a trip to Corvette land. Car up on jack stands and level. Drain fluid, drop pan and change filter. Reattach pan, fill with fluid till it runs out (through the OPEN DRAIN PLUG). Start the car and let it reach operating temp. Add fluid to the running car through the open drain plug until it runs out. Reinsert drain plug and tighten.

I put diesel fuel in the radiator on a M113 PC instead of in the fuel tank.

Life is a bitch and then you marry one.

+1

I have done most maintenance on my cars through the years with help from my dad. I will never forget the day I came home off of a 36 hour study/final exam bender from college and thought it was a good idea to change my oil... I got under the car and started torquing the oil plug to loosen it up... SOB if the thing wouldn't loosen... I kept at it for 5 minutes and it miraculously started to turn! I was ecstatic! I kept turning the wrench and the next thing I knew I saw the head of the oil plug in the wrench... With the rest of the plug in the oil pan... DOH! So I freaked, and drove it to my local mechanic, who laughed at me... He backed the oil plug out meticulously with a hammer and die and so nicely changed the oil for me and put a brand new drain plug in!... Lesson learned; if it won't turn to start, try the other direction...

Wow, I feel really stupid right about now...Is the oil drain plug positioned horizontally in this car in front of the oil filter?

Thanks,

Glad to see you got it all worked out and the folks here were not too mean in the process You show me someone who as done much work on a car or just about anything for that matter, and I will show you a person that has screwed something up, at least once.

Too bad more don't have the guts to post their mistakes, I have been saved many times from those who have, especially when it is an easy to make mistake.
