I only have a little port injected 3.5 liter V6 family sedan, those times and trap are much quicker then any stock 5.7 of any year. Aren't V8's supposed to be much faster ? I mean this isn't 1974. I don't even have a tune, just full I/E and driver mods. The DA was 1783 that night by the way, if you are familiar with 1/4 mile, this is key.
So, you are comparing a modified much lighter coupe that costs thousands more with a full weight family sedan? power to weight.......

PS: What modifications do you have again?

That is true. It comes down to the person's needs.

To be honest, I think both cars (SRT-8 and ZL1) are overpriced. In my world, they both should cost around $45k.

When the word first came out that GM was producing a supercharged Camaro to compete with the GT500, the general consensus in this forum was that it would cost around $45-$47K.
The guys that said the ZL1 would cost $55K-$60K were basically told they were crazy.

Why would they come out with a car to compete with the GT500 then price it 10k less? It would be at a different price point in the market. Not only that, a fully loaded 2SS would fetch over 40k, so it makes no sense that you would get magna ride, LSA, beefed up suspension and drive train components, functional aero bits, and the exclusivity for 45-47k. I think the ZL1 is priced accordingly. I think the GT500, with as little improvements as they have done for the 2013 (other than being impressive on paper) got over priced. They gave it a bit more power, and made very few changes, and yet they upped the price 5k. To me, the GT500, compared to the 2011/12, is a bit over priced.

That's in my world. The new GT500 and Camaro ZL1 are out of reach of most people.
Back a few years ago, you could easily pick up a new GT500 for $45K. My friend is a saleman at a large Ford dealership in town.
No one really expected the GT500 to increase its HP to 600+ along with its price tag.

About the SS.
New 2013 Camaro SS can be had for $33K (for the money, that's a good deal). A very well equipped 2SS/RS, runs around $37K. You shouldn't have to pay any more than that if you shop around.
The only cars fetching over $40K are 2SS/RS verts with GFX etc. And I do know some guys in this forum, that paid over $40K for their SS.

But over $40K for a Camaro SS is too much money.

Really??? I think the changes that were made to the 2013 GT500 were quite a bit.

Dual mode suspention
Totally different 5.8L engine, from supercharger to block to internals to lots of other things that would fill this page.
Better electronics
Launch control
Different geared transmission
Upgraded clutch along with other clutch part upgrades
Added Track Pack option
WAYYYYY better heat exchanger and cooling for the supercharger.
Over 100 HP and TQ more than the 5.4L
Carbon fiber drive shaft
Bigger front and rear brakes
Minor cosmetic stuff that I actually dont like as much but they were changed.
Im sure there are some other things that I have missed but I say thats quite a bit.

Don't get me wrong, I like the car, I just don't see where the extra $7k comes from over the 11/12 GT500. It was too much of a price increase. The engine is pretty much the same power plant, just bored out to a 5.8 with a larger blower. What they saw is that people were willing to pay the prices for them and they adjusted it accordingly. Automotive industry is the only industry where during an economic down turn, prices of cars rapidly increase year after year, and we are willing to pay for them.
