I HIGHLY recommend not doing that. Pinning it is never a bad Idea, but hammering on a balancer is always a bad idea. Even more so with an AL block. Since there is no keyway on these cranks, the balancer is a very tight press fit. Even hotplating or heating the balancer you would have to beat it on and risk throwing your crank endplay way out of wack or cracking your block/mains.
As for solutions, I would talk to a machine shop and have them make a solid thread in replacement thread slug so that you can use a factory or ARP bolt. Find out the thread depth of the crank and have a machine shop make a thread slug that long in 16mm. Have them cut the outside to the smallest diameter thread that you can safely tap the crank out to and still have necessary thread engagement.

yeah...no pounding. lol
all the blower kits come with a guide and pin kit. You can make your own pin easily. You just need the guide.

HA HA, NO! it would still wobble its way off if you don't have a bolt holding it in.

It wasn't too bad actually. I just went really slow after I drilled out the old threads. I would tap a turn back off, then clean out the fresh thread & just repeated that process for an hour. I would say it took me about 1 1/2 hr to make the repair and install the harmonic balancer. I'm very happy about all of this and I will be finishing the cams/ported heads install tonight/tomorrow!

Did you use locktite? I went and looked at a bunch of old Ls3 crank bolts we have and it looks like only the first 1" of the threads of the bolt are used.

Im glad you got it fixed, just keep checking it for a few weeks

FYI for future folks doing cam swaps or pulley swaps please get a longer bolt to seat your crank then once it's seated good take the long bolt out put your old bolt in and torque it down to spec. Then take that one out and install your new bolt on and torque that to spec.

Op congrats and good luck finishing up your build.
