no,the sound is coming from the engine compartment but it sounds as if it is coming from directly behind the AC fan switch area.

Are you referring to the AC fan? thanks

It is the engine fans. when you turn the AC blower off it quits. When you turn the AC on, the electric fans increase rpm to help cool. The fans increase rpm with more throttle, and decrease with less throttle. This is what I believe is happening.

Brought mine to two different dealers. Typically it goes like this.
Drop car off at scheduled time, 3 hours later get call, "we cannot hear it." Drive back to dealer, drive the technician around the block, demonstrate the noise, get an apology for putting 10 unneeded miles on the car. Wait for final diagnoses, 2 hours later get a phone call claiming gm doesn't have a tsb for fixing the noise and won't authorize them to proceed.

Currently, I am in an endless phone tag competition with gm customer service.

Guys, I think you're all overreacting. A lot of cars I've had, or driven in do this with no issues from the AC.

This is generally what I hear 99% of the time and do not waste my time making an appointment unless something is wrong and I know there is already a fix.

I know this is an old thread, but last week mine started the whine around 2200 rpm... AC off and it stops, even with the blower still on. AC on and it starts back, BUT it is intermittent and sometimes there and then it stops... AC compressor was replaced along with the belt STILL THERE.... Now the dealer tells me it's normal. WTF? This is NOT a fan revving up with the rpm. Sounds like a bearing going out! Now I have to fight the dealer to fix this.... I smell LEMON LAW coming into play over this....
