[VR] Stage 1 to Stage 5. CTS-V's Journey to 800rwhp!!!

Xavier’s CTS-V coupe has undergone quite a few different levels of performance upgrades through the years, and recently he took the final plunge into a final combination that would finally achieve his end goal of having an 800+rwhp LSA powered coupe. Our journey with Xavier’s V started in mid-2015 when he came to us with a set of B&B longtube headers and a GM ZL1 lid kit to install, as well as requested for us to install our Stage I performance package which included a 2.55” upper pulley and supporting modifications. From here Xavier was hooked on the modification bug and the long and slippery road to higher power levels began.
It is rare that we are given the opportunity to truly build a car through our staged packages as most of our customers usually shoot for one end setup at once, but this was a great time to truly test the performance both on the dyno and at the track with Xavier’s car as it made it through each level of modifications that were installed. The next step after these first modifications was to install a set of 850cc injectors, an ATI balancer and 9.1” lower ring, and other supporting parts to bring Xavier up to what is typically included in our Stage III package. Shortly after we also added a DSX fuel system, upgraded to 1,000cc injectors, and finally put the car on an E85 tune. With this combination Xavier was able to run the car to a best of a 10.7 ET at over 130mph at Steele Raceway in Alabama on a 19” drag radial driving the car flawlessly to and from the track.
This is where the real fun started! After finding out that he was soon to be a father, Xavier knew that he only had so much more time to go before focus and priorities would change away from being as heavy on his car hobby, so he came to us to lay out a plan to ultimately crest the 800rwhp on the dyno and give him a very streetable setup capable of 9-second ET’s on his new 17” Weld drag package. For this, we laid out the following upgrades to help achieve his goals:

• MAST Motorsports 255cc cylinder head package
• Vengeance Racing custom spec camshaft kit
• Vengeance Racing 5” Intake system
• VR Ported supercharger and snout
• 9.55” lower pulley and Gates belt
• Nick Williams 102mm throttle body
• Trunk mounted heat exchanger tank and Stewart EMP pump

This essentially put Xavier’s car up to a modified version of our Stage 5X package (without methanol injection) and was able to net him a final power output of 808rwhp and 758rwtq on our chassis dyno on E85! This car will soon be running in some of our local ½ mile and ¼ mile events, and we look forward to seeing how Xavier does piloting this CTS-V monster to achieve his new goals with the new found power, as well as carrying around his new baby in the back seat!
