I specifically didn't want to attach to the stock seat belt mounts. Both locations require a spacer as the threaded holes are recessed below the interior trim. Any added parts could affect the function of the stock belts so I wanted to avoid the possibility. The bar is removable with 4 bolts so the rear seat function is unaffected. I've never had a person in the rear seat so for me not an issue, I will seldom if ever remove the bar.

The upper belt mount as designed allows the belt mount bracket to swivel ensuring the belt is always aligned to the driver. If you mounted a harness bar rigidly so that it added stiffness to the chassis the belt would no longer be free to swivel. Not GM's design intent. Not having done the original GM design, I am reluctant to modify the original anchor points function as I don't know the assumptions the engineer made. It might not have a negative effect but could also have a catastrophic in an accident. Safest to leave it as designed if the stock belts will still be used.

Actually, I used the BK bar as a starting point for the basic concept. I did the actual design from scratch using my own measurements of the pickup points and Camaro geometry. The brackets were cad designed (cardboard aided design) and then the other cad was used to get the bar geometry figured out. I am starting the bar weldment today, just got the tubing on Friday, so should have some completed pictures later this week.

First, thanks to all of the people that posted pictures of their setups as it was a big help in deciding how I would do mine. The tank plate is finished and the first prototype is installed. The two lower brackets are also completed, next I will order up the materials for the main bar weldment. I should have this done in a couple of weeks and will post pictures of the completed installation. It looks like the total cost will be in the $200-$300 dollar range, that of course doesn't include my labor as that is free.

Looks awesome man! I'm interested.

Cool stuff. The other thing I noticed all ur bolts are in single shear. Did u consider a clevis on the tank plate and the plate behind rear seat?

I am using 1/2" rod ends with grade 8 bolts, shouldn't be an issue.

Tomorrow I'm heading to OG Racing to try out some Sparco seats... My left knee can't take it anymore.... Planning on 5/6 point harness and an Autopower rollbar. It will only get worse when I go to R comps so this is something that I MUST do! (I keep telling myself this)

At my last track day (last sat) my informal survey of the advanced run group was about 90% roll bars. Most people I talked to said seats were the most important first upgrade. I'd also say that over 75% of the group was running "R" rated tires with 50% shaved (looked like slicks).

I am reluctant at this point to change to a race seat so the harness setup is that next best way to be more planted in the seat. A roll bar is a better option but not right now for me. Maybe some time in the future.

I am also thinking of using the Schroth Profi II ASM, do you know of a good place to buy them?

Putting a feeler out there. I am ordering an RPM Roll Bar. I have the Speedware setup for my harness Bar. Anyone interested? Bar is in perfect condition and has all hardware?
