Low end Vette vs. SS/RS Camaro

Every time I see a Vette, I think I need one. But,the only one I can afford is a basic 1lt. How is the performance of the 1lt relative to the SS Camaro?

If I were you, I'd go for the fully-loaded Camaro. IMO it has even more prestige than the Corvette. It is the same engine... so pretty much the question comes down to "which dress do you like better?" LOL

I have an 08 base C6 Vette with the Z51 package. Never driven a new Camaro but the Vette has outstanding performance. I'd say the deciding factor for me would be if I needed the rear seats or not.

just seen a 04 zo6 with 9k stickered for 32 at my dealer...was really tempting...it would be a drive for you but maybe worth it for you

Shifted to Vette after renting Camaro

I rented a Camaro for 2 days. IMHO, the rear seats in the Camaro are next to no seats which is what got me looking at Vettes. My wife is fairly tall and when we got out of the Camaro and went shopping, it was difficulet to even get bags in the rear seat area with where she had put the seat. I'm really struggling as I have always wanted a Vette and can kind of afford one now though I have to stay with the 1lt Z51.
I did, however, love the Camaro. This is not a bad mouthing for the C5 but simply thinking about going with a real 2 seat sports car vs. a "4" seat coupe.

1LT's have NO side air bags.

2010 Corvette's are being built. The 2009's are leftovers now.

They're desperate to sell them.

Pretend you have a Corvette to sell, and watch them run away, or low-ball you like never before.

Check Corvette Forum.com for deals on new 2LT's.

All you vette owners don't flame me now. A friend of mine actually let me have his vette for a Saturday so I could test drive that baby for a comparison. IMO it drove a little "heavy" to me. I actually prefer the way the camaro handles and feels compared to the vette. Don't get me wrong, the vette was awesome and a serious head turner but I like the way the camaro feels.

in canada, a loaded 2ss auto w roof and gfx is over 50k plus tax. msrp.
a base vette is 69k ish
a loaded Z06 is over 100k.
a zr1 is 145k.
a buddy just paid 90k for a loaded base vette. he had to have an automatic..period.
he could afford the zr-1, and would bought it if it had A6.
his son just bought a 2009 porsche turbo cabriolet. (awd).
i challenged them to a duel at the 1/4 mile track when my car gets in. i think i can beat the vette, and the 996 will eat me alive.

I personally could not stand driving a really base car, but that isn't too bad in a vette, so it's really a draw there... Performance would probably be pretty similar, but are you taking it to the track or anything?

The back seat might be the way to decide. Good luck. Congrats on keeping it American, that makes me like you more than a lot of people out there.

I own an 08 LS3 C6 Z51 NPP exhaust 1lt Corvette and its far from a basic car.

Does everything I need and its fast as hell. Huge discounts on them too..

The camaro SS is an awesome car as well so just decide...

Do you want a two seat sports car where the roof comes off or do you want a 2 plus 2 coupe ..

You can't go wrong with either ....

I want one of each.

I got so pissed off by gouging, lying dealerships who expected me to put up with them asking for a ten-grand handout just to order a 2SS that I came to my senses and realized that as spiffy as the Camaro might be, for less money I can pick up a C6 coupe with low miles and possibly warranty left that'll blow the Camaro's doors off without breaking a sweat and for which all manner of aftermarket parts are already made. I can put a proper sound system and navigation into a superior car for less money, the only thing missing being the warranty which I'd have voided within the first week of ownership anyway getting rid of that damned torque management.

I'm still interested in what a Camaro might do for me; I still love the car and would be thrilled to own one, but I will never be thrilled enough with any car to put up with treatment like that from a dealership in this economy. I will not have terms dictated to me in a transaction where I'm the only solvent party!

Hell, the Vette probably still gets better mileage on top of everything else!

I'm always surprised at the perception of overlap between the Corvette and Camaro. They share an engine, and both have 4 wheels, two doors, and come from a Chevrolet dealership, but really, don't the similarities end there? The 'Vette is a sports car, plain and simple, and the Camaro is a GT. To me, it seems you buy them for two different purposes and they drive differently. When I sat in the Camaro, I never got the feeling i was sitting in a Corvette competitor, other than a little bit of similarity in the width perception and view over the hood.
