That's scary that the car was able to be registered to other people even though it had been reported stolen... I'd say somebody dropped the ball. I'm glad he got it back but damn... I wonder if insurance covered the original value back in 1983, would he technically still own the car?

The person that lost out was the last one the car was stolen from, and possibly did all the resto work to the car. From the article the original owner it was stolen from was working on the car and probably did not have it insured which is why he got the car back.

Some one inside CA DMV must have had a connection to a stolen car ring.
Shades of Gone in 60 Seconds? Glad the original owner got his ride back!!

And the kick is , that DMV was trying to get all the late fees since 83 The owner said in a radio interview that it would be about way out of this world Then someone at the DMV said that he would have to pay late fees only up to three years back And off course they all came to common sense and they find out a special paper work that he had to file , explaining that it was stolen Only in CA , he got it back into his grandson's garage lockup , and the car that was in that garage ( corvette ) will stay outside Very cool story , but it's not the first time this happen A few years ago someone else had his car stolen , and returned after 30 years That one two , was in a container ready to ship to Russia , AGAIN from the Port of Los Angeles Last edited by oldfriend; 02-23-2014 at 08:35 AM. |
