A sleeper is like pulling up to a light against the " little old lady from Pasadena" a guy in dress at the hot rod drag strip "GUT" street ; who is testing factory muscle from the development dept....kicking someone's arse on like Hayward drive or somewhere in Cal or even Detroit, that's what they used to do the being three eventually the motorheads just had to take them out to the street days once in a while and being in development they had no badging and often stock appearance but built for development I mean hey the 409 came from somewhere, the 427...and hemis, 283,327,350, 348, 400, 396,402 all numbers I know well....and they had to be new at one time, now adays though we just through a ton of camouflage get to see cars in development when they are at the track covered in crap to distort from last years models like a bag of crap...LOL I dragged the gut many times kids.

There’s a motorhead around here who dropped a 383 stroker in an 80’s Malibu. Lettering on the rear window says “it’s just a 305”. He’s not kidding anyone. That thing is a monster!

My '79, which I bought new that year. I don't think the cursive-script 'Malibu Classic' badging (rear quarter panels?) lasted 6 weeks. The bright trim didn't last much longer.
Shown as it appeared in 2005, a few years after it had been repainted in close to the original colors. The little badge on the nose was the only one that stayed. SuperRam'ed 355, 5-speed Tremec, 3.73's. Norm
