L99 Noise
Well I am just below 900 miles on my new SS and started hearing a strange noise this evening. The sound in the video isn't the best but I was wondering if anyone had an idea of what it could be. It seems to be only coming from the drivers side.

That's pretty hard to hear anything... could it be your car switching into 4 cylinder mode... Give some more details on what you have to do to hear it.. RPMs, accelerating etc...

Yea, its kinda hard to hear in that video. Here is another one that is a bit better quality. This maybe perfectly normal but I haven't noticed it before today. I really only notice it at idle. As funny as it sounds, it sorta sounds like a steam engine in person. Thanks in advance for taking the time to listen.

Ok... that one was better, but it's hard to tell where your camera is at... Are you under the hood or standing outside the car. If sort of sounds like lifters ticking which is normal right after startup. Possibly an exhaust leak, especially if you hear it more on one side
I would take it in to the dealer and let them have a listen... |

There is a Technical Service Bulletin out on lifters in the AFM cylinders. not a recall, but worth asking your dealer about. may have to change out AFM lifters depending on duration of sound. This will be warranty covered issue. TSB# PIP4499D i think. search the forums. its in here somewhere.
hope this helps. |

Almost sounds like a belt pully is loose or maybe the belt is rubbing on something.

Sorry for the late response. The dealer said the sound was normal. On the invoice they stated " Found Doc ID 2644797 - This being a normal operations to updated exhaust." From what I was told this sound is due to AFM and some spring loaded valve found in the exhaust?
They stated that it was most noticable while the car was close to a wall.. IE in a drive thru or garage. The first time I noticed it, I was at in a drive thru lol... The video was taken in my garage and the sound isnt' as noticable when the car is in my driveway. So I wonder if AFM was disabled if this sound would go away... |
