new to the camaro world got a few ?
hey guys im new to the camaro world , ive been driving rice burners my whole life lol never even owned an american car until now. i picked up a 91 rs t top v6 3.1 . and i have to say its pretty awesome!!!!! shes pretty clean for her age and not to mention the 5 and a half hour detailing i gave her plus the 3 coats of wax! she has 168k on the dash but the guy i got it from claims to have done a motor rebuild but had no paper work to back it up, however she runs very well and idles really good too. but there are things that i am finding that are odd.
1- the hood im told is off a 82 z28. 2-the dash is cracked in the middle. 3- the paint on the car looks very sparkley, and the skirts all the way around change colors in the light from blue to a purple pinkish. something tells me not original paint. 4- my gauges are all messed up. the only one that works is my mph gauge. the oil pressure gauge is always pinned or twitching. the temp gauge never goes past 100. and the rpms always sit at 4k and pin on the slightest amount of gas. but the car runs normal and idles normal. 5-my brake light is on but the e brake is down. i do need new pads rotors. 6- when i first start the car a light comes on (INFL RST) what does that mean? i got the car off craigslist so of course im not going to get a straight answer out of him or a legit answer. 7- my steering seems lose. like i can turn the steering wheel a quarter of the way before the actual wheels start turning. the steering seems lose or soft. any ideas where to start on these issues would be great. also what are some mods that i can do to add an extra little kick to the car without getting crazy expensive I.E. SUPERCHARGED or TURBO. also put a picture of the car up so you guys can see it |

Not sure about the other stuff but INFL RST is INFLATEABLE RESTRAINT (air bag). Should go out after a bit. Only be concerned if it stays on.

Can you post some better pics of the car? Just so I can see the hood and paint.

Hood could be from an 82 z28. looks like it. Paint I am not sure about. I would say from the age most likely been repainted.

hey, welcome to the camaro world. I think you would be proud to know the v6 3rdgens are some of the best handling camaros. the lighter v6 makes them balanced. I think you would really enjoy some autoX events with that car. If you do, install a wonderbar, and uprgrade the swaybars (easily found at your local junkyard). Two cheap and easy mods.
Any way your questions, 1.Yes that is a 82-84 z28 hood. if its fiberglass its somewhat rare. 2. Crack dashes in thirdgens are as common as t-tops. either get a dashmat or find a new one at hawksthirdgenparts.com or thirdgenranch.com 3.Main color does look like a stock color. there are several blues for the thirdgen like that. 4.Here is a link to a refubished cluster http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ca...terior/Gauges/ heres a link to fix the tach, it works i've done it myself. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/el...meter-fix.html This link you will have to do some searching but the answers will be there to fix your other gauges. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/electronics/ 5.try this http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/el...t-staying.html 6.as somebody already said Inflatable Restraint, check the fuse and you can check the the connection inside the steering wheel. 7. 1st thing to check the steering is to drive the car onto ramps and have somebody turn the wheels back and forth slightly and see what in the steering linkage and ball joints is loose. Everything should be tight and move smoothly in one piece. with 168k on the clock it would be worth your money to replace the ball joints, inner and outter tie rods, idler arm and center link all at once and then you can forget about it for years to come. Use moog parts. You may also have a steering gearbox issue. here is a link to adjust it or rebuild it http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/su...build-rag.html Check out post 32, it covers the ratios. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/su...g-gearbox.html . Or you can replace it but pay close attention to the ratio. Most parts stores don't keep track of the gearbox ratio so you could have a fast ratio and get a new one with a slow ratio. good luck! Keep it simple with the engine mods, unless you go turbo but heres a link. make sure you read the stickies http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/v6/ . It will be a killer autoX car once you get the steering fixed, add a wonder bar (don't autoX without one) and upgrade the sway bars. heres a link to help with suspension with some info on stock swaybar options http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/su...nsion-how.html
