Genuine Chevrolet racing helmet.... sorta ;)

Hey guys found this helmet on amazon for like 45 bucks, needed a new helmet for the drag strip. Had some bowtie decals and pintstriping left over from previous projects, decided id make it my own! Thought i would share it!

So you bought a cheap motorcycle helmet for drag racing in you car ? If your car is actually fast enough to warrant a helmet that isn't a legal helmet.

Helmets for any form of car racing are rated/test differently than for motorcycles. And I know that's a motorcycle helmet just by all the vents.

Yeah i race at a small 1000ft strip that requires you have some kind of helmet if you run 11.22 or quicker at their facility, it will do the job. They only check the date of the helmet. And yes I knew i bought a bike helmet. Just wanted to share the cosmetics of the helmet that is all.

So, he should go out and spend half his retirement on some overpriced Snap-On tools?

It doesn't matter if it's a motorcycle helmet or a racing helmet, any track worth it's salt will have regulations stating that it must be Snell rated and will check the back to make sure (the Snell rating system is actually the same for both types). Since your helmet is just DOT rated and not Snell, be prepared to be turned away.

There are many ways to obtain high quality tools without paying retail. Got most of mine while at a technical school. Snap on, Matco, Lincoln.... many quality companies gave students monster discounts while in school. I think Snap on was 75% off way back a few decades. Another is inherit... some of my best tools go back a couple generations. Not going to leave that treasure chest of Chinese garbage for several generations still in the nut sack. Garage sales, estate sales, drug seizure auctions, winning a drag race sponsored by Matco.... Just scratching the surface of creativity.

The best tools are often not found in the wealthiest of person's garages. Nor did their retirement suffer as a result of having quality tools and mechanical smarts.

Cheap tools and helmets do have their place in this world. You can throw them at some idiot whippersnappers screwing around out front of your crib while yelling get off my lawn at them.
