As per cats.. This is a GENERAL statement, the high-flow aftermarket cats I have seen more failure rates with on high boost applications (So preemptively we remove them if need be), as I have also seen them last at 800rwhp. Factory cats are actually a lot better construction than aftermarket and hold up to the temperature better.
Obviously there are other conditions such as AFR/Timing, etc. that can knock out cats, but we are pretty conservative on this combination as it makes great power with the good parts that are on the car. |

Supercharger plus Cats = baddddd
Wow that's crazy. I'm glad I checked this out. Seems like its worth it to go back to the stock cats and just sell them? How many people have been successful running the solo cats wit a S/C?
Edit: maybe because I am an LFX it may not do the same damage as it would to an LLT with headers? |

No way! I was just reading a bunch from him saying he was all good (they were older). I guess my cats will be up for sale next month. And from what I read the stock cats can handle it. I don't think I would pass emissions with gutted cats in NY. Thinking about it so I could pass a visual |

I normally don't post here but had read something that could be of interest. The ZL1 factory tune has "Cat Over temp Protection fuel". AKA the tune enriches up to prevent Cat failure. Other tuners add them into the V8 tunes they do.... some do not. Here is an example of one that does. (Sponsor and the car is a ZL1 so there is that.)
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=329519 Here is the important bit. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...00&postcount=7 The AFR fattens at the top of the RPM to prevent overheating the Cats.

Thanks for that. I spoke to Jannetty about tuning for it but unfortunately it isn't a guarantee but it is supposed to help. A fuel system capable of handling their fuel over temp tune is required. Now based on the countless others with the issue and this car being my DD, I don't know if it's worth the risk when I could just return it back to stock once I make that FI leap. I'm sure going to miss them though.
Anyone that had the SOLO cats (or any other high flow) fail on them: did you put them on after you installed the boost kits or before? did you have the tuner aware that there were high flow cats on the car? And were they able to do a similar tune as mentioned in the previous post with the AFR changes to push more fuel in to lower the temperature? I'm thinking bigger injectors and fuel pump might be needed Last edited by HeritageLS; 03-15-2014 at 01:00 AM. |

mine were put on after the SC, I kind of expected them to not last as that appears to be the norm, as far as the comment for bigger injectors, we are Direct Injected, no injector to change right now. There are a few working to see what else can be done, but you should be safe with SOLO cats unless you are FI..

2)Yes the tuner was aware of all mods. 3)Unfortunately the tuner wasn't Arno and in fact the intial tune went way lean at high RPM. It was supposedly later fixed, but my Solo's didn't last 30miles after S/C install. I do think the increased flow provided by the LLT with headers also contributed. |
