Does dealer have to prep my new camaro?

I am having second thoughts about having the dealership prep my new camaro. My friend just bought a new ford and it looks like they put alot of fine scratches all over his car. It doesnt bother him but it would kill me to have my new car look like that. Would a dealer leave the car as is with plastic still on the seats and not wash it if I asked,or is it something they are required to do?

They are required to do the inspection but they aren't required to wash, etc.

When a friend of mine bought his Sky Redline 3 years ago, he asked the dealer to take care of standard mechanical and function prep, but not to touch the seat and carpet covers or the exterior protective wrapings. They obliged with no problems. The window sticker was left on as well.

They even left the steering wheel plastic wrap on and the airbag warning sticker on the dash.

If you ask your dealer, if they are worth their salt in customer service I'm sure they will have no problem leaving all the wrapings on. They'd probably be happier to - that's less work for them

You may literally have to hold their hand. A lot of the Vette guys say they have to go down to the store when the car arrives and make sure the sales/service staff make it clear that no one is to remove the protective plastics and/or clean the car.

Thing about doing at home is if there is any problems found with the paint, you can't have them fix it.

Personally I'll be removing the plastic off myself at the dealers lot before I take possession of the car.

I do pre delivery inspections at my work all of the time and the instructions in the paperwork tell the technician only to peel the exterior plastic and leave most of the interior wrapping for the customer. If the car was going on the lot it would have everything peeled off. But the real point of this reasponse is that we DO NOT wash a car until it is SOLD and it is always the customers choice if it is washed or not. I'm sure not every dealer does this but that is the way my dealer works.

Nope... I believe they get sent to a professional 3rd party to get done, actually. They leave the factory, go get stripes, then get shipped to the dealer (maybe after a final inspection I'd assume?). So they may be doing a bit of washing before this application regardless... especially seeing that the waiting lot is outside of the plant, where they get rained on and such...
