I would like to ask a question to add to this:

Tuning modifies the parameters of the PCM doesn't it? and if so will this invalidate the warranty?

what if GM does the tunning? Should I expect huge amount of ponies freed up from the dealership or take it to a renown tune-up shop. Im have 1000 miles on my car now, and I ready for the tuning, just need to know where to start.

Thx

gm will reflash the latest update at best.
i suggest working with them, and dont try and hide stuff.
my cobalt is on meth, giggle gas, and 15 lbs boost, and i still have warranty.
i have less knock (er, none) than a stock one. what do they care, as long as im not trying to get countless warranties out of them. if i break, i'm ready to pay.
you might get lucky and find a gm tech that knows how and is willing to tune you, but i bet it would be ultra hush hush, and he'd deny it if asked.

his cobalt more than likely came with the boost.

a tune on its own can gain varyingly different amounts for different cars. with all stock parts, you might be able to see about a 30hp gain from just a tune (at least with the A6) now, we've already seen intake and exhaust on these cars gain 10-30 hp without a tune, with a tune, you can bump that up another 5-10hp in some applications.

as far as what happens with a tune, there are a lot of things, from changing spark timing advance, to adjusting fuel maps, deleting unwanted things (such as CAGS, torque management, etc), changing the rev limiter, shift points (auto), speed limits, shift pressure, cooling fan on/off temps, and some other stuff that I cant think of off hand.

I disagree to an extent. If the tune CAUSED the warranty issue then yes. If not then TECHNICALLY NO.

Cost of a custom dyno tune should run $400-500. They are worth every penny, it is the cheapest and best way to piuck up HP and driveability. My LS2 GTO picked up 20 HP and about 2 mpg on the hwy.

I was running my Camaro hard, one time(a few yrs ago), and the engine started knocking HARD! I took it to the dealer and it was just out of warranty!!! Out of the goodness of "someone s " heart, they put a BRAND NEW crate motor(STOCK) in it for FREE! Moral of the story: If you re in good with your dealership when the car is under warranty, they CAN take care of u, even if they re not "supposed" to!

A lot of people will get a second PCM so the GM dealer can work on the car - that way you can keep the original PCM and still have a "modified PCM" with the customization. this will, in essence, keep the warranty.

You wouldn't want the Service tech re-flashing your modified PCM and erasing the Tune, would you?

Granted, if you have a blower sitting on the top (like mine), you kinda need to have a good relationship with the GM Service department or know the owner of the dealership.

I spoke with the service department manager, sales director, and owner of the GM dealership to understand what was covered and what was going to be voided before I did anything.

the engine upgrade Lingenfelter is going to perform to my vehicle (adding a S/C, exhaust, and Tune) is no longer covered by GM - it is covered by Lingenfelter and the parts manufacturers (3 yr 36K mi warranty from Lingenfelter). Exhaust is covered by Borla manufacturer's warranty.

The rest of the car is still under warranty with GM. They will Void the "component" that was upgraded/replaced, and any parts that are altered by said part.

I spoke to a chevy tech. Some cars require them emailing the company a flash copy of the cars computer. If anything is changed the warranty is void.

However, to his knowledge, the Camaro is not one of the cars requiring this.
