The most cost effective brake upgrade for the C5 SS?

Thinking about doing some upgrades to the SS, the big brake kits from Brembo/Baer are expensive and I have no use for them since I rarely do any tracking.

Planning on putting on a set of G-Stop or other aftermarket brake lines, but not sure on which rotors and pads.

Any recommendation on a good rotor/pad combo? (I want something that's not too loud and have improved stopping power, don't really care much about dust issues.)

The stock ones are pretty damn good, unless you're tracking your car a lot. Put in better fluid and maybe some SS lines and you should be good to go. If you want to physically go bigger, the CTS-V upgrade is probably the cheapest you'll find but it aint exactly cheap.

I see, I will probably get some SS lines first and see how it feels.
Last time I read the CTS-V brake set were $3400 just for the parts, that's not exactly cheap like you said

Keep in mind $3400 was for the whole set. The CTS-V uses the same rear calipers (essentially) as the SS Camaro. You can get the CTS-V Front calipers, rotors, pads, clips, retainers and stainless steel lines for $2000 from ADM Performance. Then just paint one pair of calipers to match the other.

Not sure that is the ADM price but close. This is what I did awhile back. Painted rear calipers to match silver fronts. Boy do they work. Look at the pics on this forum of the Z-28 test mules and you will see this brake package.

The CTSV brakes are great. But for serious driving, think about swapping out brake pads other than OEM

Looks to me like the stock caplipers and rotors are plenty large enough. I'd change and experiment with different pads though. I used some frozen rotors on my track car a few years ago, and still use them. They've been on my car for 12 years and I've never had to turn or cut them! Pads are replaced as needed, but the rotors are still within the minimum thickness. Their site is www.frozenrotors.com. SS brake lines and fresh brake fluid will help a lot too. It's especially important to flush and bleed the system often, if your tracking your car. Like what was posted above, this stuff absorbs moisture, and as it does, it's boiling point is reduced, which leads to soft pedals and poor brake performance.

Hope this helps.
