So, has anyone else had Onstar suddenly call you with an advertisement in the car?

This happened to me today on my way home. The blue onstar light on the mirror started blinking and then some woman's voice came on and started talking about Onstar and destinations and such. It would not let me hang up the phone and pressing the Onstar button did nothing. On top of this when it was done the radio was still silenced until I called Onstar and then Pressed the power button on the radio and held it. I never had this happen in my 2011 camaro. This is VERY unwanted and annoying.

Anyone else have this issue?

I sure hope that's some sort of anomaly. I'm sure OnStar is going to be read the riot act if it isn't.

Mine just did the same today, possible it was a major ad they ran and put on every onstar system that is active i assume. It will be annoying if it happens often for sure, it cut my radio off too after the ad as well, i hit the onstar button and it came back like it hung up im thinking lol

Happens at least once per new build. Has never happened more than once each new build for me but others have reported more than once. It is one of the reasons I am the all time most adamant proponent of OnStar. (That said, no need for black Suburbans my OnStar friends.)

This is why I never hit the blue button at all when I buy a new GM vehicle, never have and never will! I did it once, big mistake, hounded me for a credit card and to get me to buy their plans...no thanks, I use the trial and do not go further.

Yup... that sounds like OnStar alright.

OnStar is GMs most profitable division. I don't know if those quite startling "ads" are a reason. But I recognize many love OnStar and would not dream of driving w/o out it but for the rest of us, the above suggestion to never touch the blue button is the best.

I don't cancel, I always threaten to cancel, the get a dirt cheap 6 or 12 months plan...been doing that for many years.

FYI...everyone should change their Onstar wifi SSID password. You will have to call Onstar to do this though. Trust me, you want to do this for so many reasons, biggest one is security.

Forgot...you can log into your Onstar account via their website and changed both the SSID network name and password.

I will never have an active XM account ever again. Took months of back and forth with the FCC, XM, and other services to finally get them to stop hounding me after my trial subscription ran out. If I buy a new car that has XM I tell them do not activate it or I will back out of deal.

My last GM I just unplugged the onstar battery and said to hell with it.

Hmm I haven't used on star once..... Well except to start my trial.

And, I can't imagine that I'll ever use it. XM is nice but I can live with standard radio. Hell, half the time I'm just listening to sports talk on AM!

Yes, the camaro stereo is pretty good but, I prefer my home system to rock out. When I'm driving I enjoy listening to the engine & exhaust. Having the music up loud enough to drown out the car and road noises is distracting. And my drivers door has a woofer rattle which is also annoying.
