Gonna Wash My Car with Dawn Soap. Someone Stop Me if I Shouldnt. ***UPDATE W/PICS***
Been doing it on every car we ever had for years, and never noticed anything wrong. Had the car for a week, so this will be her first wash. (lots of brake-dust). I figure, if its safe enough for our spoons and plates, then it should be good enough for a weekly clean.
BTW, I have black stripes from the factory, if that makes a difference. Or am I mistaken? Of course, there will be a time for a full wax/detail, but not this weekend. Thanks Last edited by MG; 09-06-2010 at 05:19 PM. |

DONT DO IT!!!!!
Dawn soap will strip any and all wax that your car has on it. Which will leave your car with no protection. Only use Dawn soap if you are planning to do a full detail on your car including a new wax. I would DEFINITELY not do a dawn wash though. If you are looking to just do a over the counter supply car wash then go pickup some ICE Liquid Car Wash and a good wash mit. If you want to do it the PROPER way with good products then check out Junkmans videos on youtube or this forum and he will show you how to really do it. I personally use Adam's products and they are awesome. Plus they come with a 110% money back guarantee I would hate for you to start off on the wrong foot with washing your brand new beautiful ride. If you want more details feel free to ask.

I'm afraid to know what the paint looks like on the cars you've been washing with Dawn!
You CANNOT base your reasoning on Dawns performance on utensils...thats crazy! Dawn will remove any protection your paint has, leaving it vulnerable to acid rain, your basic road grime, etc., resulting in a rapidly deteriorating paint job. Seriously, spend a few bucks and buy a good quality car wash. Car washes are designed for your cars paint. Dawn is designed to clean pots, pans, utensils, NOT car paint. I hope you'll avoid using Dawn...you may think you're saving money, not having to buy car wash, but in the long run, you'll end up spending alot more money for a repaint. |

Like everyone else stated DO NOT USE DAWN or any other dish washing detergent on your car. You will strip off all the wax.
This guy has to be pulling everyone's chain.

Unfortunately I wasnt joking , I'm a car care amatuer. Good thing I asked though. What would you guys recommend, then? I have an autozone 5 minutes away from my house. Something for a quick wash at the end of every week, I really dont have the time to clay/wax the car too often.
Thanks again guys |

We will call the cops and have your Camaro removed from your home!!
Seriously. Don't do it. Just go down to a local walmart, target or auto zone and pick up some "CAR" wash soap. But don't use DAWN!!!

If you are looking to go with Autozone products then stick the the well known names like Meguirs, Mothers, and even ICE. The problem with Autozone and any other over the counter products is that the micro fiber towels are complete junk and will scratch the crap out of your paint the 1st time you use them. I would check out Adams products. They are only sold online and today they released a new Foam gun and are running a special on a Premium car wash kit. Since you are just looking to keep your car clean and not do any in depth detailing yet then go with this the Premium kit and you will be all set to go. http://www.adamspolishes.com/c-6-specials.aspx Make sure to use the "CAMARO5" coupon code to get yourself an extra 10% off. I guarantee you wont regret going with that kit. They also have a 110% satisfaction guarantee policy and they stick by it.
