I have the dreaded lifter knock

My Z has a knock in the right bank after the car warms up. The knock seems like it comes and goes, it does get real loud at times. Took it to the dealer and they are taking it in on Monday to see what they find. It's still under drivetrain warranty. I'm very nervous about them cracking open my engine, but thought they were the best place to start. I plan on some hp mods in the future. curious what you guys think........Sam.

Sometimes i can hear a light tapping on the right bank also thru my exhaust on first start up but goes away when warmed up. Im always listening to the exhaust for anything that sounds odd.Would be nice if one specific noise fit one specific problem but a tapping lifter sound could be several things.Well if your planning on upgrades in the future, its probably a good thing something showed up now and not later , depending on what upgrades you had in mind.Good luck friend on everything. Please do keep us updated though on their findings. Im sure EVERYONE on here would want to know

Sorry about last post. Cant download for crap. On C6 ZR1 ZO6 forum page 3 towards the bottom of page it reads [ZO6] LS7 lifter gone bad ,time for upgrades. Or close to that. Its a really good read with all the info and issues they have had over the years with the LS7. Some things i didnt know. I just thought maybe you would like to read it. Just trying to help you out. Good luck on Monday hope its a small issue. Please do keep us updated. Thanks

At 18K+ miles, you are obviously a street driver and one of the pioneers regarding mileage on the LS7 in the Z/28. I am about 9K miles myself and also drive it all on the street, not the track.

Usually valve train noise, like lifters, is straightforward to figure out. Use one of those cheap hearing stethoscopes you get from pep boys, and you should be able to tell if it is the injectors ticking or the drive train. Just out of curiosity, I know it has nothing to do with it, but, who assembled your motor ? Mine is a 2015 Z/28, assembled by Mike Priest.

Sorry been busy working. You welcome brother. We're all brothers here. hjdca: thats what i did when i first bought mine. Started with a reference point and have listened a few times since. Only noise that is pronounced is the injectors on mine. I've read some interesting stuff about the c6 zo6 LS7s but so far i have to have faith in general motors that the jead issue was fixed. So far jist a couple of Z28 owners with engines issues is not enough yet to convince me other wise. I just hope im right in my way of thinking because i dig this car. CARBON FOOTPRINT!!!!! WHAT'S THAT ???? catch my drift. Lol

We just had our motor replaced after floating a valve. GM did a full LS7 replacement. New motor is running like a champ.

Was this a warranty replacement?
